It’s not been the best year and it was my birthday last week so…

I now own a 1962 bug in beryl green with the best patina ever.

Spent most of its life in Washington state and has bags of history.

A 1962 Volkswagen Beetle parked up at a service station. Its green paint is covered in age related marks like scratches, rust and paint running through to the primer and bare metal underneath. It is super cute!

Contribution in design systems is mostly people applying a go faster stripe to their own car and then asking Honda to include it as standard.

I’ve had this Design Systems meme in my head for quite a long time.

A set of screen captures from the movie Wayne’s World. The stills are showing the title screen and Wayne and Garth’s excited genuine reaction when it was their own cable show vs the confusion and bewilderment when it was bought by a network and sponsored by Noah’s arcades. The text overlay reads “design systems 2015” and “design systems 2025” over each group of screen captures, suggesting that some of the essence of what made design systems good has been ruined by people that don’t understand them.

No worries I am doing this slightly second hand as only one of the team has dragon. I have a feeling we saw the same behaviour with no CSS - just didn’t like a label having anything in it span, strong, div whatever.

It was, now changed to be a separate element. But if you have any inline markup inside the label it won’t check. Seems like it has to plain text…

I am currently in this state. Doing some small fixes to the channels.

I have certainly thought about driving the pan if I can hook up the wiring and fuel. Column is still in the shell, we trying to avoid removing it.

I appreciate this is pretty niche but have any of you web / a11y folk really dug into not being able to check a radio / checkbox with voice control e.g. dragon, if the label has any inline formatting… e.g. a span around a word etc

I’ve definitely seen this create accessibility issues. E.g. the designer marked up something and the developer followed it without question.

Or if the site has a 16px base but a 18px default body. I’ve seen this a lot with implementing the iOS font size on web is that as web tends to have bigger defaults the same increase you might have on app is too much.

Second guessing myself now, I guess I’m thinking more about some kind of inheritance problems - similar to if you use a design system library in a site that has specified a different base and all you components shrink…

Feel like the large or bold text rule is just too ambiguous to follow. It was made at a time when you could have like 5 fonts on the web.

Any system I’ve worked on since we say no text under 4.5 just because often it gets changed after the fact - like someone editing a CMS 6 months later…
