Pink-barred Sallow from the woods last night #teammoth
Two Epinotias among last night’s 20 spp (7/9 VC61): ramella is common and widespread; trigonella a local and apparently retreating birch roller - this one was first 10k sq record #teammoth @bcyorkshire.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
Just one Rush Veneer, but a beautiful day all the same…
3 from our York garden (VC61, 25/8). Is that Grey Chi?? I read they are much reduced in numbers especially on lower ground…Vine’s Rustic? Spruce Carpet? (sorry I struggle with these). Many thanks @mothiduk.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
57 of 20 spp. in the end. The rarest was an as-yet-undetermined Ephestia sp
Nice to find this a minute ago when checking the trap! It’s absolutely fresh / what a creature! @bcyorkshire.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social
Not far from Stamford Bridge in Yorks: a wonderful sight and sound that we encounter far too infrequently these days…
Just 20 spp in a couple of hours last night (VC61, 22/8) but three were new to the site: Pinion-streaked Snout, this thinly-distributed grass moth Agriphila geniculea and a delightful Lesser Swallow Prominent… @doublekidney.bsky.social @bcyorkshire.bsky.social
Is this Agriphila selasella please? @mothiduk.bsky.social VC61 15/8
Any indications on whether it’s been a good season for them up here this year, Jono? The weather must have helped (?)
Fabulous creatures
I was lucky enough to be watching them on Portland last week
Apologies for the woeful photo, but I’m thinking this is Cedestis gysseleniella. To light, in pine wood, VC61 18/7 Thank you as ever @mothiduk.bsky.social
Does this look good for Mere Wainscot please? VC61 last night @mothiduk.bsky.social @doublekidney.bsky.social #teammoth
Nice indeed to find this rare and local spindle feeder last night: Scorched Carpet. First for site/10km sq. VC61. @doublekidney.bsky.social @bcyorkshire.bsky.social #teammoth
Is this Satin Beauty please - a female I assume? @mothiduk.bsky.social
Buff-tip, VC61, 12/7. Astonishing creature!
#teammoth @bcyorkshire.bsky.social
I hope you find one too - it’s clearly too hot for them up on the canopy
Definitely worth looking for Purple Hairstreak coming down to nectar in this hot weather (poor shot of one from 27th June in a local wood) - amazed to find one nectaring this morning on buddleia in our York garden. Not often one gets a garden butterfly tick! @bcyorkshire.bsky.social
Difficult ones I think: is this enough for Bactra lancealana and Blastobasis adustella (wing: 8mm) please? VC61 9/7. Thank you @mothiduk.bsky.social #teammoth @bcyorkshire.bsky.social
Please can you cast an expert eye on these micros @mothiduk.bsky.social Phtheochroa inopiana, Eudemis profundana, Epinotia solandriana, E. tenerana… 5/7 VC61 #teammoth Thank you!
Please can you help with this pug @mothiduk.bsky.social VC61 5/7. Many thanks #teammoth
Fabulous! Used to see valezina on the Mendips - what a creature!
