CEO @joanna-elson.bsky.social: Our new research paints a stark picture: far too many older people on low incomes are simply surviving, not living.

But the government has the power to change this. We need meaningful support for older people in next week's Budget.

The rise in energy prices will come during the height of winter and could be devastating.

Older people are sleeping in coats and seeking warmth in public places. They need and deserve protection from sky-high energy costs.

The UK Govt can change this.

2 in 3 older renters receiving Housing Benefit aren't receiving enough to cover their rent.

With @crisis-uk.bsky.social, we're calling on the UK Govt to unfreeze Local Housing Allowance so that no renter has to cut basics to get by.

For older people on low incomes, even one unexpected bill can push them past the point where there’s anything left to cut.

Nobody should have to cut their essentials. An intervention from the UK Govt is needed.

We cannot stand by while older people in poverty are forced into debt just to keep their appliances running.

Changes as part of the Renters' Right Act, including the end of Section 21 evictions, will provide much-needed security for older renters.

But we still need government action to improve the quality and affordability of rented homes.

Our research shows just 8% of landlords had used grants to improve the EPC rating of their properties.

With older renters shouldering the costs of energy-inefficient homes, the UK Govt must simplify and promote grants to improve the quality of homes.

Over a quarter of older renters are living in non-decent homes 🏠

Nobody should have to risk their wellbeing by living with cold, damp and mould, which is we are supporting @healthequals.bsky.social's calls for the UK Government to act.

We all deserve a safe and warm home.
Older private renters are living with damp, mould and cold in their homes – and it’s threatening their health and wellbeing.
