That was one of my top Barnsley moments. Mid filming, chatting about the Barnsley Carol, the front door to the Town Hall opens and in walks Dickie. "Now then, is the leader in?" he says, has a quick chat, gives Look North a wave and carries on his way. Absolute legend ❤️

RIP Barnsley legend Dickie Bird. Met him a few times whilst working for @barnsleymuseums.bsky.social and he was always up for a chat. Go well Dickie. Owzat? #DickieBird #Yorkshire #Cricket #RIP www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricke... @michaelcurates.bsky.social @historyjt.bsky.social

My Aji Amarillo chillies have finally ripened! Just as the weather starts to turn. They've taken their time but now they're bringing a little bit of South American sunshine to a slightly cold and grey South Yorkshire. Can't wait to try them. The green ones were delicious 😋 #Chillies #GrowYourOwn 🌶️

Yes, it's a fantastic museum. It's small but they pack a lot into the space and it's really well done. They're usually only open during the week, but they are open for the second Saturday of Heritage Open Days in a few weeks time (September 20) www.heritageopendays.org.uk/submission-e...

Sounds great. Sorry I missed it. Have you been to the Mental Health Hospital at Fieldhead? It's well worth a visit.

www.bbc.com/news/article... Delighted to hear that Maurice and Fred have been given a blue plaque. Queer histories (and working class ones in particular) still don't get enough formal recognition #BluePlaque #Barnsley #Darfield #QueerHistories #LoveStory #MauriceDobson @barnsleymuseums.bsky.social

A Scottish post-box for this week's #PostboxSaturday At the bottom of Glen Sannox on the beautiful Isle of Arran
Red post box on a black pole next to the base of a wooden telegraph pole on a grass verge in front of a low stone wall. It has a crown motif on a silver rectangle below the posting hole. It has no other royal insignia.

This is my next batch, in kit form 😄

Fermented green chilli sauce appears to have worked out ok. Mix of green cayenne, macha pichu and Aji Amarillo chillies plus a green pepper and garlic. Added a pinch of mustard powder when I blended it. Delicious 😋 And surprisingly hot!! 🔥 @dgbhotsauce.bsky.social
Two jars of green chilli sauce. The sauce is yellowish green and looks delicious.

Sadly the post office just next to this box looks to have closed this week 😔 Guess we were lucky to have one for so long

Completely forgot to post anything for #PostboxSaturday but I had some letters to send, so here's my local box looking lovely in the moonlight 🌚✉️ @letterappsoc.bsky.social

So sorry you had to go through that, but very glad that you had somebody who could step in and sort it (them!!) out. She sounds like a great leader, and colleague x

If you're in the West Yorkshire area in September I can recommend St John the Baptist and the Westgate Unitarian Chapel in Wakefield. They're both usually open during Heritage Open Days and both have really interesting crypts. St John's has a couple of sets of 19thC resurrection gates too.

Just booked Principality tickets to see Wales v Japan in the autumn rugby internationals. Am I mad? I want to believe they can win, but I'm not optimistic... #WelshRugby #RugbyUnion #ScrumV #WRFU #HopeOverExpectation 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The recent heatwave has brought on the chilli crop, so I've had a fun evening making green habanero hot chilli sauce and an adapted vegan version of African shito with Zimbabwe Black chillies. Yum! 😋 Not fermented this time (sorry @dgbhotsauce.bsky.social ) but looking forward to trying both!
Three jars of yellow chilli sauce and two jars of black chilli sauce on a tray on top of a stove. There are coloured tiles behind.

Walked past these trees in #Wakefield this morning and just had to stop and listen to the starlings. What an incredible noise! Just shows how important even a small amount of green space can be for urban wildlife ❤️🌳🐦 #Yorkshire #Starlings #CitySounds #Birdsong @wakefieldcivicsoc.bsky.social

Thanks. I've also got Cayenne (Joe's Long), Macha Pichu and Zimbabwe Black growing this year. All doing well, and all a lot further on than the pesky Aji Amarillo. I planted them at the end of Feb and only just flowering. Never tried them before. Hoping we get some fruits!

My Aji Amarillo chillies have finally started flowering. They've been really tricky to grow in pots in my Yorkshire conservatory, not helped by a persistent white fly attack 🤦Hope they're worth the hassle... 🌶️🌶️🌶️ @dgbhotsauce.bsky.social #Chillies #GrowYourOwn

When my (very much missed) Yorkshire farmer father in law died, he was at home and was laid out in bed in the living room overnight by the district nurse. The family all said their goodbyes to him in the morning before the undertakers arrived. It definitely helped the grief. So sorry for your loss x

Nearly blooming forgot!! 🤦 If you've got local elections in your area today don't miss your chance to vote!! And make sure to take photo ID. The guy behind me in the polling station was turned away because he didn't have any #LocalElections #PollingStation #Voting
Polling station sign. Black letters on white background that say 'Polling Station' in capital letters Printed sign that says 'Opening times 7am-10pm. Note that as long as you are in the polling station, or in a queue outside, before 10pm you will be entitled to apply for a ballot paper'
