Same landscape and more or less same colour palette as the quick sketch from 2 days ago, but I tried a few new brushes. Was especially interested to find a different way to do the foliage of the birch trees…

I'm doing a series of the same landscape but trying different brushes and colour palettes. In this sketch I tried some new brushes and a different way to draw the foliage of the birch trees that are a focal point in the center of the landscape.

Quick #sketch from this morning. Same landscape as the vibrant pink/red one I shared recently… I will stick with this landscape this week and do different versions of it, using different colour pallettes and different brushes to experiment a little bit and see what works well and what doesn’t…

A 40 minute quick sketch. I need to do more of these quick studies. Put on a timer and some nice music and just go for it without too much thinking. The result often feels so much more dynamic than anything I spend hours or even days working on…

This was based on reference pick of the ‘Heide’ (heathland) in Belgian Limburg, the area of Belgium where I was born and most of my ancestors are from. These days we just have a few national parks left with this landscape but for centuries most of the land looked like this. I want to work on a series of ancestral landscapes… This a sunset landscape with vibrant oranges, magenta pinks and purples. A rolling landscape with colorful heather, a sandy path curving towards the horizon and a few big trees dotted in the distance.

This is the town my grandparents & other ancestors lived, based on some source material from 150 years ago, it looks very different now though!

Another one of my #quicksketches of Bagan in Myanmar. Been thinking about Myanmar after the big earthquake last week. Absolutely devastating for the people there who were already in such hardship. They also fear the temples in Bagan were badly damaged...
