after the terrible fling i had with ac valhalla i didn’t imagine i’d ever play an ass game again, but hm. it’s good to be back.
infygremlin.bsky.social
am very glad it’s a slow week on AK rn bcs damn. i’ve fallen into the ass cred odyssey hole and can’t get out
infygremlin.bsky.social
since everything is supposed to be comedic here, the fact that they all just end up being inconsequential jokes is very mood whiplash inducing, ngl 💀 Would've worked fine if they kept it to low-stakes monsters like the slugs or ones that already had comedic elements like the High Priest...
infygremlin.bsky.social
Both of us stuck in the pit of high expectations I see 🤝 But yeah you're on point, I think the decision to include the major monsters with Big Lore Implications (collapsals/seaborn/sui etc.) was a fumble bcs ofc it would be VERY interesting to the AK players to hear more about them, but
infygremlin.bsky.social
(We will boldly ignore the inconvenient fact that adventurers don't and can't "die" normally in dungeons due to the special internal logic of those dungeons, meaning it shouldn't have been carried along outside into Terra, but you know. We already know this is a very flexible collab.)
infygremlin.bsky.social
but if the thing is that yes, the party /did/ die (and everyone was just revived afterwards, like adventurers do all the time back in the dungeons), then Collapsal corruption is still functioning as we know it.
infygremlin.bsky.social
Wondering if the party surviving the Collapsal corruption has anything to do with why they had Valarqvin bring up the Laios party's ability to die multiple times (due to the nature of the dungeon back in their home world) in this scene

Bcs as a rule Collapsal corruption isn't something you survive,
Chilchuck:
You saw death in me...?

Arges:
Yes.
Many deaths, in fact. Both in the past and the future, yet here you stand now, alive.
infygremlin.bsky.social
You know. The biggest gripe I have with DT-4 is

HOW could they set up the Collapsals and give us exchanges that are THIS fire and then just make it all a joke?? WHY (narrator vc: it's bcs it's a comedy skit collab so it can't get too dark)
Chilchuck:
Can a doom you see be avoided?
Arges:
All I can say is that I try.
Chilchuck:
...Then so will I.

Nothing lore-related or anything here but I /have/ to save this bit

What are you doing here Laios...! The mountain legion needs people like you...!

(PS. Let's be real tho I'm sure he'd just creep even Eik & co. out with that attitude)
Laios:
Well... this is a strange monster.
The void on its face doesn't seem to be part of its usual biology.
Fascinating. I really want to study it.
infygremlin.bsky.social
Gonna save this description of a corrupted hornbeast's face bcs I think it's pure poetry that they've made it both captivating and horrifying
A creature showing up in the forest should be a common sight, but this hornbeast has still drawn their attention... For one reason—
On its face is a black... black? No, it is a blank, an endless void.
The first thing that comes to mind is the galaxy of stars one can see in the night sky.
A cow with a void as its face. They find this reality hard to believe.
What's even more shocking is what lies dead center in the blank space. A circle.
An uncannily perfect circle.
A circle somehow even darker than the void surrounding it.
Darker than the night, deeper than the void.
But how can this dark circle seem to emit light?
Because it isn't. The circle is really a hole that sucks in all the light near it, to the point that it seems to be glowing.
Darker than the night, brighter than the light...

Our little man notices that the forests in Sami are always shifting; this supports a claim made in the AK lore book that has an entry about an Ursus expeditioner who noticed the same thing about a century back.
Chilchuck:
Senshi's right. But the terrain here is making me feel uneasy.
Like the land itself has been shifting the whole time...

Laios:
You mean like the dungeon?

Chilchuck:
Yeah, something like that. But while the dungeon is always changing on the inside, this place is... the entire forest seems to be changing.

There's a scene of a tree very conveniently shedding Foldartals, understood to be Samivilinn's direct attempt at communicating with people, right when the party's itching for some guidance for where they should be headed.
Oakcup:
Shamans have many ways of glimpsing into the future, but sometimes, Sami will also proactively cast us a glance, just like this.

Chilchuck:
Sounds a bit too convenient to me.

Oakcup:
I think so too, sometimes.
infygremlin.bsky.social
Oakcup explains the Samifjod's perception of divination, which is seen as a tool for survival; Samivilinn is invoked only in very dire situations, and is dismayed that outsiders mistake this as being on the same level as the "guidance" (fortune-telling) peddled by posing psychics.
Oakcup explains:
We rarely predict the futures or wishes of others. We look into the future to ensure our own survival.
We pray for Sami to warn us of any dangers ahead so we can prepare for them, but beyond that we live by the laws of nature.
infygremlin.bsky.social
The Myrkwood is dark, damp, and full of animals. So a standard forest...but also damn, don't talk about Amma's backyard like that 😂
Marcille says:
But the fortune teller said we'd find them in the Myrkwood, and what have we found? Nothing!
It's dark, damp, there are just as many monsters as there are trees, and our supplies are nearly gone, which means you'll probably try to eat the monsters, again.
infygremlin.bsky.social
Laios is probably talking about the Collapsals here, since they do inherit the abilities of whatever they "possessed".
Laios speaking:
I've also heard tales of a powerful monster that gains the abilities of whatever it eats.
What an amazing ability…

Now I have to go and try to put some order to whatever new Collapsal info that we got from the collab
