Struggling to make peace with a world that makes no sense. https://lunarfish.github.io/wealthscales Everyone needs 1 home. No-one needs 2. If you're not a socialist, you're either a sociopath or an idiot.

Analyst of what? Are we talking about a psychoanalyst? Toddler behavioural analyst? Chaos theory analyst?

What non-music channels do MTV (where the M stands for music) have? Why does everything have to be needlessly confusing?

I don't think he will have done but I assume there will be Trumpty Dumpty tantrum fallout like there was after his soggy birthday parade. They might have to put the Nobel committee into witness protection.

Well you'd effectively be gaining about 20 minutes per day so to avoid drifting too far from actual day time you could have an extra hour in bed every Friday and Saturday night?

It would but they're not nice neat circle/time numbers like 12s and 60s. Maybe that's what's wrong with everything. We've always been cosmically slightly off kilter.

But I suppose we'd also gradually get out of step with daytime which might be a bit mad.

If seconds were slightly longer we could have 12 months of 30 days and 360 day years. So each day would be 1 degree of our orbit.

I think possibly yes because the mesopotamians (maybe) counted in 60s. #HalfRememberedFacts

It's one of the things that I think has got hopelessly lost in our democratic process. We don't elect MPs to be experts or for their opinions at all. Their job is to understand the collective will of their constituency and to represent us in parliament. They're a proxy voter not an elite authority.

I always thought betrayal was a Conservative principle.

There's a book, Northern Lights about the Norwegian scientist who figured out what the aurora borealis was. Kristian Birkeland. He got rabies from a dog bite and travelled to Paris to Louis Pasteur who had a new cure. While recovering, Pasteur had a party where Birkeland met Marie Curie.

Go to a framers and have one made? They're not normally pricey and they've got a lot of experience to choose the right styles and mounting and whatnot. Plus then you've got 2 beautiful personal things. (Deleted the first one - it got autocorrected to "farmers" which wouldn't have been helpful)

I've started finding this at work. One of the most enjoyable parts of my job was recruiting junior developers and mentoring them as they learn to code. Now they leave me alone and ask chatgpt or copilot and I think both of us are poorer for that.

We live - not just in a world of live TV and 24hr news - but in a world where the vast majority of people have a video recording camera in their hands most of the time. Not even in their pockets or bags. Actually in their hands. How do these barefaced lies fly?

*refers to notes. "He would say..". Farage gets to reframe what other people say even when he's not there.

Conservatives +1?! On the back of this conference. I do not understand other people.

Wasn't true when there were 100-millionaires.
Wasn't true when there were billionaires.
Wasn't true when there were 10-billionaires.
Wasn't true when there were 109-billionaires...
At what point do people finally accept that we've tried making the rich richer and it doesn't work.

What I think is British is subtlety. I can believe the attack on the Manchester synagogue was a tragedy and that the Hamas bombings were a tragedy and that the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by the Israelii government n Gaza is a war crime. I don't have to pick a side. They can all be appalling.

Much as it's gratifying to see the fall of the Tories it's weird that rather than being the result of a landslide Labour win, it's because there's a somehow less competent, more overtly corrupt, racist, sexist, fascist and self-serving party that the press are actively cheerleading for.

The problem with this is they're supposed to be splitting the right vote with RefUK so that neither of them get elected. I find myself in the bizarre position of wanting a better Tory party on the grounds that it makes it harder for either the Tories or RefUK to win seats.

Even at 2 per day with no days off starting from the day of his birth that would make him over 340 years old.

The Tory party IS the people in the Tory party. If all those people jleave to oin Reform then Reform is just the Tory party with extra arseholes.

AI Churchill will say anything at all if he thinks it's politically expedient - just like the real Churchill. They'll have to put wheels on it so it can cross the house a few times.
