Wine. Just wine.
Wow, this is good. Very attractive floral aromas, and fresh red fruit. Pure and precise. You know what @dumbfatbob.bsky.social, you can leave me on a desert island with this wine and I’ll be just fine. Who needs Pinot Noir anyway? 😅

This symbolises everything that is wrong in winemaking.

I haven’t kept statistics but I think it’s safe to say that one out two natural Beaujolais has mouse taint. I’m really tired of this.

Second bull’s eye for Venica after the Friulano. It needed some air to get rid of some rather unpleasant vegetal aromas (asparagus!) but then it opened up to enticing mineral aromas, fresh pineapple and subtle herbal notes. A nimble and precise Sauvignon with the telltale citrus pith in the finish.

Bo-oh-oh-jolais. Such purity of fruit. And then mouse comes to spoil it all. Goddammit. Still enjoyed it, kind of.

2nd time I have Areni from Armenia. This 2016 is a collaboration between Paul Hobbs and the Yacoubian family. I like the ethereal raspberry fruit here, but there's an oak background that this wine simply cannot carry. The 2022 seems to be aged in steel tanks. Should be better.

Are there any takes on the effects of Mercosur on wine? I read that it's a opportunity for EU wines but will it really make the difference against cheaper Chilean wines for example?

2026 started well. Wine wise, at least.

Foradori’s Miko Flor 2023, a Chardonnay developed under flor in Trentino. Intriguing nose with minerality, curry, and something like resin. Crystalline and mountain freshness. Really quite unique!

The three cheapest white wines in my supermarket come from the other end of the world.

Ok @ridesmith.bsky.social you were right. Venica’s Ronco delle Cime Friulano is a beauty. Attractive nose with flint, grapefruit, and a hint of pineapple. Lovely creamy mouthfeel with electrifying acidity and a slightly bitter note in the finish that works really well for this wine.

Some elegance in this Barbaresco 2013 of Michele Chiarlo, but the vintage is showing here. Very high acidity, fruit almost completely lacking. I would like to try this in a better year.

One of my favorite Chiantis.

We often joked about a rating scale above 100, but here you have it.

I kind of knew this, but I had a reminder recently that once you're down the rabbit hole, you're taste is nowhere near representative of what most people like in wine.

Really loved this article by @simonjwoolf.com Good food wine pairings exist, but you need to put the effort in to find the right match. And, importantly, the dish needs to leave some room for a wine to complement it. themorningclaret.com/p/does-the-p...
Does the Perfect Wine Pairing Exist?
Maybe if you go for orange wine. Here's what changed my mind.

My first bottle of Girolamo Rosso. I was expecting alot of this wine, but unfortunately it was rather underwhelming. Very smooth, lacking Etna character. Blind I would probably think it's a modern Spätburgunder. A bit too oaky.

A lot’s being said about natural wine, but rarely that it is boring. This one is a bit though. Very smooth, lacking character. Blend of Monastrell, Syrah, and Garnacha Tintorera.

A fantastic piece of reporting, brilliantly illustrated data, thorough, neutral analysis, transparent data collection… and frightening conclusions. Well done @skynewsrss.bsky.social for putting in long miles on this one
