If I only offer the overflow of my heart in prayer to God, but not the rights to change my heart, I shouldn’t be surprised prayer doesn’t have an effect.

When you pray, which direction do you look most often? Backward, inward, outward, or forward?

To experience deeper abiding in Christ, I had to teach myself to imagine God’s love.

I started by dwelling on the highest love I have ever known for or from someone.

Then I imagined that love coming from God to me, and going from me to God.

He loves you — and you love Him — at least that much.

The thing about reading poetry is that for a long time you feel like everyone else is in on something that you are not, and you try to hide it.

And then you discover that you were right, and the thing everyone else is in on is that there’s nothing to be in on, and then you try to hide that too.

Sometimes, those most likely to harp on how sinful we are miss the other side of sanctification, a truth every bit as life-changing:

You don’t realize the pervasiveness of Christ’s holiness in you.

A Christian living by the Spirit does far more good than he or she even realizes.

I fully did not expect smell becoming an important part of my prayer life — has this ever happened to anyone?

Any recommendations for things that smell…I don’t know, sacred?
