I've been hunting for Shalpha Squirtle for more than a month...
I've used multiple different hunting methods, spent hours phasing, seen 11 Shiny Squirtle, filled 5 boxes full of Shiny Pokemon, and 1.5 boxes with Shalphas.

There were so many hunts I wish I could've done this year, but I can't wait for next year!

So the Spawn Overlord trick is pretty interesting...
It lets you fill up spawn points, but doesn't overlap Pokemon. So helps guarantee your target more often.
Downside to this one is Gardevoir will run away sometimes.
You can do this with the other Starters too.
