The Flyers had it all in front of them: that clear step forward and maybe just even the playoffs.

They just had to stay somewhat steady.

But they've fallen apart, and now they're up against the clock.
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-oppor...
The Flyers left opportunity on the table, now they're paying for it
Details have been missing, way too many open shooters have been left unchecked, and crucial points have been given away.

It's tough to win a Super Bowl, much less keep a window open to multiple.

Doug Pederson declared a new norm for the Eagles with the '17 title. It didn't last.

Now the Hurts-Sirianni era is trying to keep it open, but might shut it if they're not careful.
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-thoug...
If the Eagles aren't careful, they might just shut their contending window on themselves
It's the OC search, it's Jalen Hurts, it's Nick Sirianni, and it's paydays coming due. It takes a lot to keep the Super Bowl window open, and the Eagles already know it.

The Flyers still need a top center.

Robert Thomas sure would fit nicely in Philly.

He'd cost a lot, though. But maybe the Flyers are in a spot to put a big offer together.
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-trade...
NHL rumors: Can the Flyers find their No. 1 center on the trade market?
The Flyers still need a long-term center for their top six. Robert Thomas in St. Louis and Shane Wright in Seattle might be their best bets.

The Flyers' meltdown in Utah was met with their biggest answer all year, and the best from Owen Tippett.

They have work to do now, but they're still there.

On the Avs game, Tippett, and some trade thoughts ahead of tonight against the Isles:
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-thoug...
Flyers thoughts: A devastating loss gets a big-time answer, and the best from Owen Tippett
The Flyers' meltdown in Utah could've easily been the point where they folded. Instead, they piled on against the best team in the NHL.

You saw it. They know it.

The Flyers can't blow a game like that.

"We unraveled, and we gotta put the pieces back," Rick Tocchet said.

And put them back in a way that works.

On the Utah meltdown, the vets' part in it, and the usage of a certain winger:
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-garne...
The Flyers can't blow a game like that
The Flyers were leading 3-0 at one point, and Garnet Hathaway was looking straight at an empty net with little time left. So Philly won, right? Well...

The Mets' opt-out heavy deal for Bo Bichette is kinda dumb.

But ultimately, they got him and the Phillies didn't.

Free agency's changing, for better or worse.

Do the Phillies have to start changing with it?
www.phillyvoice.com/phillies-opt...
Opt-outs cost the Phillies Bo Bichette, but won't change Dave Dombrowski's aversion to them
Bichette's last-second, opt-out-laden deal with the Mets was a volatile sign of an evolving market, but it isn't a move the Phillies see as something to adapt to.

The Flyers finally won a game last night. It just took a recommitment to defense and holding on for dear life for the last 12 minutes.

But it is still a break, and a tough climb back up after that six-game slide did some serious damage.

A few thoughts:
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-thoug...
Flyers thoughts: The losing streak is over, but now it's a climb back up
The Flyers went to Vegas, got back to their game, and finally got a win. But that six-game slide did a lot of damage.

The Eagles really gifted a crappy, whiny Niners team an extra week for no real reason...

Not that anyone was going to be in the mood to watch a miserable offense try to win another game 10-7 anyway.

Thoughts on that Seahawks game, Hurts, and A.J.:
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-thoug...
Eagles thoughts: Beating up on the Niners was really that easy, huh?
The Seahawks decimated a banged-up and overwhelmed 49ers team that was still somehow too much for the Eagles a week ago.

The Flyers played their way into having a chance this season, but now they're sliding.

They can save themselves, but it's gonna have to be all from within.

They're not sellers anymore, but they're not about to start making panic moves either.
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-losin...
The Flyers were giving themselves a chance. Now they need to save themselves.
The Flyers slipped to five straight losses and to the outside of the playoff bubble. If they're going to snap out of it, it's going to be all from within.

The Flyers are playing bad at a really bad time for it.

Now Dan Vladar is hurt too.

Pittsburgh is up tonight. It's a four-point game.

They gotta snap out of it here.
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-losin...
The Flyers are 'not delivering right now,' but have to find a break in a pivotal stretch
The Flyers have lost four straight, their special teams are struggling, and Dan Vladar exited the Sabres game with an injury.

Everyone's mad at the Eagles.

We're all waiting on Bo Bichette.

And though the Sixers and Flyers are both better, where's the point where you can truly buy in on both again?

The Flyers were overwhelmed by the Lightning the past two games.

Tampa has stars, has been there before, and is always in the playoff conversation.

They know how to play winning hockey. The Flyers are still figuring that out, but they can take notes:
www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-thoug...
Flyers thoughts: The Lightning brought a storm Philly still has to learn to weather
The Lightning are a team that's won, that has stars, and is regularly in the playoff conversation. The past two games were a reminder that the Flyers still have a long way to go to get to that.

The Eagles' offense, they were gonna fix it, they were gonna fix it.

They said it for weeks, then months, then came that last drive against the Niners and it was too late.

Nick Sirianni knew how this would end, and never did a thing about it.
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-thoug...
Eagles thoughts: They were never going to fix this
Nick Sirianni and the Eagles repeatedly said throughout the season that they would get their offense fixed, and repeatedly covered for Kevin Patullo in the process. But those words were hollow.

No more "We just find a way."

No more "We'll figure it out."

The Eagles' hubris caught up to them, and now their season is over.

The same old story that finally bit them against the 49ers and ended their season:
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-49ers...
The pivotal plays from the Eagles' season-ending bow out to the 49ers

Cutter Gauthier thought he drew first blood.

Then Trevor Zegras stole the show, the Flyers wrecked the Ducks again, and the "F--- YOU CUTTER!!!" chants from XMA stayed relentless.

What a weird rivalry. What a night of hockey in South Philly.

www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-ducks...
Trevor Zegras steals the show this time as the Flyers crush Cutter Gauthier and the Ducks again
The spotlight was all to Trevor Zegras as he scored twice against his old team, while Cutter Gauthier continued to draw the scorn of an entire fan base that won't be letting up any time soon.

Dvorak's extension comes with sticker shock, and in turn, scrutiny.

That's just the reality of how fans are going to react to a 5-year extension for a non-star center.

But there's a logic to it for the Flyers here, a calculated risk, and a statement.

www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-thoug...
Past the sticker shock, Christian Dvorak's extension is another sign that the Flyers are moving forward
The Flyers aren't going to be deadline sellers anymore. If you play well now, you stick around and help steer the ship. So Christian Dvorak is sticking around.

The Eagles lost yesterday.

That one 3rd and short where McKee threw it away twice to turn it over on downs was just dumb playcalling from the sideline. All they had to do was pound the ball forward for the 1st.

But it was a rest game. Why am I still mad?
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-thoug...
Eagles thoughts: Don't let the backups mask how bad the offensive playcalling still is
The backups played. Why am I this mad?

Denver Barkey was a hopeful for the Flyers' future down the line, but circumstances and rapid development of a smart, aggressive game created an opening.

So he's here now. He's contributing. And Barkey and the Flyers don't seem to be looking back.

www.phillyvoice.com/flyers-denve...
Denver Barkey is getting comfortable with the Flyers, and not looking back
Denver Barkey was once a diamond in the rough hopeful for the Flyers' future, but his development and circumstance have fast-tracked him toward helping the team right now.

Tanner McKee was shaky.

Jakorian Bennett and Kelee Ringo were brutal.

Tank Bigsby, though, he can help the Eagles in the playoffs if they can get him the ball a bit.

A rundown of what was learned from that 24-17 loss to the Commanders to wrap up:
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-comma...
What we learned about the Eagles' reserves: Tank Bigsby can help in the playoffs, Philly's DB depth is brutal
Tank Bigsby can give the Eagles yards if they can get him the ball. Jakorian Bennett and Kelee Ringo probably aren't getting anywhere near the field after Sunday's loss to Washington, though.

Sunday's win was all to the Eagles' defense.

The offense, it ran 17 2nd-half plays, and moved only 17 yards to give the Bills every last chance to steal it.

It's far from the first time, too.

It's incompetence at this point.
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-offen...
It's not resilience when it comes to the Eagles' offense, it's incompetence
Sunday's win over the Bills was all to the Eagles' defense. The offense fell back to doing themselves zero favors, and this late in the season, Nick Sirianni and Kevin Patullo aren't about to suddenly...

The Eagles' defense made stop after stop and deserved that win.

Their offense cratered in the second half and nearly gave it away.

The Bills rolled the dice for two, failed, and the Eagles hung on.

They gotta thank all their lucky stars after that one.

The Eagles had two spots Saturday where they could've gone back to Jake Elliott for the kick and Nick Sirianni chose not to.

They won and clinched the NFC East, but they showed that their confidence in their kicker is shaken.

That's a problem.
www.phillyvoice.com/eagles-jake-...
Jake Elliott is struggling, and the Eagles' confidence in him might be shaken
The Eagles beat the Commanders on Saturday and are on their way to the playoffs, but maybe not without having shown lost faith in their veteran kicker.
