A bird's eye view of a giant, snowy mountain range involving sharp peaks and rocky strata. These mountains are made in Minecraft, but in a world with a 512 block height limit. Picture taken with a shadermod, I cannot remember exactly which A panoramic scene of a semi-tropical island, hovering over the light blue ocean with clear water, progressing from beach to bushlands to rockier and denser forest, ending with snowy mountains in the distance, underneath a cloudy sky. All made in Minecraft, trees from Paleozoey and others, image taken with custom shaders and Distant Horizon mod, but I do not recall exactly which shaders. A cylindrical floating island with an overgrown copper arch on top, embedded in more rock. A small waterfall is flowing off the left side, and the island is covered in teak trees of various sizes.
Picture with Bliss shaders, trees by Quinten A bird's eye view of a large tropical desert/mesa island, centered in a shallow ocean, surrounded and partially covered by low-hanging clouds. The island consists of several mesa-style peaks, and has a number of fantasy-esque stone overhangs. It is also populated by several settlements and large bridges supported by giant horns or bones, and covered in giant trees. There are several caves with glowing crystals inside them.
All made in Minecraft, render by Kryppt/Will.D on twitter.
Anyone with a brain can spot most AI stuff. It's hard with well-done 2D drawn art now, because there's only so many ways to do specific styles and some of the more common ones have been consumed by Ai so often that it can generate it without any tells, but more than a few secs of video? No chance.

For the morning crowd: I'm one of the federal workers affected by the shutdown. I'm the sole earner of my family rn and have no idea when I'll get paid again.
Since I'm going to be broke as a joke for a little while, I'd love to get some work. I'd love to do covers but I do fantasy maps and pinups too. Or if you just want to help out, here's how:

Storm from the X-men in a night sky with a lightning bolt striking her outstretched right hand. The Marvel comics villain Taskmaster in the conspiracy wall meme pose. His wall has pictures of other Marvel characters and papers with items and subjects from the Marvel universe. Four older women in their fifties stand menacingly on a staircase. The closest on the left is in a pink shirt and jeans, holding a gun. She has white hair, fair skin and green eyes. The woman on the right is of persian decent and is holding magical fire in her left hand. The next closest on is Black with a blue shirt and jeans.  She's adjusting her glasses. The woman farthest away is grinning wildly up with an orange aura around her. In a dark ominous cave three Black women adventurers walk along while a huge spider lurks behind them. The woman closest to the viewer is dressed like a warrior with a west African styled sword and purple, brown, and red outfit. She holds a lit torch. The woman in the middle is very short, wielding a large ornate axe and wearing furs and leathers. The woman to the rear is an elf, holding a glowing staff and in a blue gown with a collar that looks vaguely Egyptian. On the ceiling behind them the spider is brown and tarantula-like. The light shines off its many eyes.
Also, learning by immersion? Like, does she not speak Korean at all with anyone? My sister's boyfriend is picking up Dutch at least passively without even making a significant effort (because he's too busy to really invest time into studying it), simply from hearing her speak with me or our grandma.

Same goes for games, too!
"The primary reason is that Hollywood is making less stuff." THIS. I've seen so many people lazily (xenophobically) claim 'outsource is stealing all the work', but MOST countries are in the same boat rn. Never let the suits skimming more and more off the top convince you a fellow worker is to blame.
The most important human story in the entertainment industry right now is the severe downturn in film and TV production in LA and how it's affecting middle-class crew workers. I spoke to dozens of them for this story about the depressed Hollywood economy. www.wsj.com/business/med...
The only thing stopping people rn is there not really being any good alternatives. Mastodon is more like a loosely connected series of smaller servers, and tbh I don't have a clue what else there might be.
Want to bet that a romhack featuring a 'villain team' populated with those characters getting absolutely stomped into the ground, arrested, and convicted of terrorism (within the game) would be labeled political?
I can hardly wait!

I just got a VERY interesting email that allies in congress were upset that so many of my readers were calling about the anti-trans provisions. I'm here to say: good. I won't let them throw our rights under the bus by cover of night.

All's that to say, keep up the calls. They're hearing you.
1. It's shutdown day, and anti-trans provisions are on the line... either today, or in a few more weeks if a clean continuing resolution passes.

Trump posted a video this morning blaming a shutdown on trans people and immigrants.

Here is your shutdown guide.

... You know, when I last played Bioshock Infinite, I knew it was a very blatant message. I did not expect to be seeing it play out in real life in every way except for the interdimensional portals and floating city. That shit was meant to be set in an alternate past, dammit.
The wounded knee thing is really Trumpism distilled to its essence. It’s not enough to be able crush people who can’t fully defend themselves, it’s not enough to actually crush them, you also have to love and admire those who do the crushing otherwise the Trumpists’ delicate feelings are injured

Another reason to add alt-text to your posts:-

It's used by Bluesky's search system, in addition to the main text of your post.
A Bluesky search with the words "Silent Hill f". It shows my post which doesn't have "Silent Hill f" in the main text, but does include it in the alt text. Basically this means that any alt-text is also used in searches
(Obv you don't quite need to vote every WEEK but the persistence is similar, as is the sneakiness of it pushing someone down your throat if you let your guard down).
If we're using computer analogies, voting is more like deferring that windows update AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN because you know that if it goes through it will break EVERYTHING. And every week it comes back, and if you're lucky it tells you it's gonna try to update again. No guarantees though.
I'd not be surprised if this was behind the whole 'anti-trans' shit in the first place. 95% of the hate seemed to be aimed specifically at M-F transitions instead of the opposite, and the end result is that it's women who now 'have to prove' that they're actually women.
The whole "women have to prove they're not trans" purity testing that's becoming popular everywhere right now proves one thing:
Abortion debates were never about anything other than women's body autonomy.
Now they've lost on that field, they're moving on to the next assault

This is the playbook, folks.

If you're not paying attention now and doing something about it, then you're going to have to sit down the rest of your life because democracy is being taken away.

Do not be quiet in this moment.
So... When's HE getting fired for disrespect?
Just curious though, what is currently broadcast through TV connections that is not obtainable through other methods? Sure it's not plug-and-play easy to run directly from a separate device you have full control over, but surely it beats being hammered with ads on a device you paid for?
"smart" TVs, which is basically the only thing you can get nowadays if you want to buy anything new. And ofc the 'firmware update' was basically this, stuffing further ads down our throats.
Oh fun, in case I needed any more reason to just ditch television in general... Looks like I'll be doing an extensive investigation on how to just wholesale replace whatever potential future TV I might get runs on...
Sadly, these people are also utterly incapable of understanding accounts written by others. Perhaps the written word is entirely beyond them? I was born long after vaccines were standard, including covid the worst I had was a particularly bad case of chicken pox when I was VERY young.

Ironically, I've used paint for format conversion a lot, since if all I need to do is turn a .png to a .jpg with low concern for quality, that's the fastest way (due to the easy 'save as' UI).
Other than that, a lot of windows-based image editors have been app-i-fied to death, so egh.
Funny thing is, with how rich he is, Elon has the power to boost birthrates massively. Set up a fund that guarantees, say, $500/month per child until they're 21 (and does not discriminate, but the fund itself is already a tall order) and people might just start having babies like rabbits.

Very interesting algorithm analysis, which explains the repeated problems with content moderation getting in the way of social justice

tldr: it's always good to block a TERF or a white supremacist or any other type of fascist

original post: www.tumblr.com/chiptrillino...
Screenshot of the Advocate article headline showing an image of bluesky's logo and JKR, with the title "Outcry grows after multiple trans uers were targeted for mild criticisms of the anti-trans billionaire" Screenshot of tumblr text post by fourohfourlifenotfound August 24 part 1/3:

"If we are ever going to stop this, then you guys need to start learning why this happens.
And it's not always because some executive made a decision to favor a TERF. It's because the technology is broken in a way TERFs have learned to use to their advantage.
So content moderation is a HUGE task. It is incredibly inefficient to manually monitor all user reports-- when you "flag" something as spam or inappropriate or 'inciting harm' (what Blueskye is saying the banned users had in their posts). So what actually happens is that the bulk of it is reviewed by machine. The precise "how" is a bit of a black box (if you say exactly, it makes it more vulnerable to being bypasses), but we generally know it's a bit of machine learning ("ai", but not he chatgpt kind) and a bit of automation. Generically this gets referred to as an "algorithm" (which is a meaningless word I don't have time to unpack here).
The TERFs have a formula. A battle plan, if you will. I've been watching them use it for almost a decade. And they play social media sites like a fiddle every single time." Text post part 2/3:

"The way it works is that they coordinate attacks on targets they dislike. (Usually trans people, but ace discourse is a notable example of targets not necessarily fitting that demographic.) They send links to each other of posts to report. They'll flag it for whatever the nearest thing they can is. The blueskye users were wishing ill to JK Rowling, so "inciting harm" was the excuse selected. "Inappropriate or sexually explicit content" is a common selection for other trans content.
Then what happens is the content moderation "algorithm" sees a huge influx of reports for a certain post or user. And instead of making a human manually review all of that, it automatically initiates a ban or takedown. And if the "algorithm" has word censorship built in, it will begin to auto-flag for things containing words in posts frequently flagged, so it begins to auto-flag the word trans itself.
This has been happening for almost a decade. There was a trans youtuber who proved TERF hater group chats flagged his videos so much that it started auto-demonitizing identical videos with the word trans in the title, but leaving ones without the word alone. I strongly suspect this is why we see huge amounts of trans women banned for no reason on tumblr. And this is clearly what is happening now." Text post part 3/3:

"How do we fix it? There's no easy solution. All the things about the "algorithm" that make moderation easier for the social media platforms are the exact reasons it's so difficult to defeat. It's hard to teach a machine what's a genuine flag and a malicious one. Again, it's been almost a decade since the issue was raised with youtube, and there has yet to be a solution for rooting out malicious coordinated flagging.
But here's one thing that can help: get TERFs off of social media. Stop letting them bait you into petty fights. Learn how to identify them. Block and report them. "

Response by drtanner:

"Blocking TERFs and other assorted bigots is especially effective on bsky, because the block function there is nuclear. In short, if you block someone, not only can they not view your account or any of your posts, but any replies they made on your posts will no longer be viewable by others, even if they haven't personally blocked that user themselves. If they quote you, you can even decouple your post from their quote. In short, blocking someone on bsky produces mutual hiding of content, and it's extremely effective at starving these cunts of oxygen. Bigots who can't convince people to fight with them and whose posts don't gain any traction because they're blocked by everyone and their dog leave the platform, i.e. Jesse Singal.
It works, people just need to remember to do it more. Preemptive blocking of dickheads before they start shit with you is the best way to prevent things like this from happening. "
