Sharing finds from old newspapers, plus anything else that strikes my fancy.
A newspaper editor in 1923 is quite sad that women have been getting too skinny and losing their curves.

"There were no injuries and rear view mirror in car wasn't broken."

That's some A+ caption writing there.

Divorce as an unexpected consequence of Daylight Savings Time! A husband sought a divorce because his wife refused to wake up and make him breakfast an hour earlier.

A lovely Halloween illustration and poem from 1913. Newspapers weren't always about news - they also featured poems and short stories, bringing some art into people's lives.

Imagine your child getting home from trick-or-treat and finding teeth in their bag! Quite horrifying!

Also wondering how you accidentally drop your teeth into a child's bag?!?

I think we can all feel glad that the "witch doctor" costume has been relegated to history. On the other hand, that cape for the "witch" costume looks pretty awesome.

The Food Stamp program, now called SNAP, started in 1961. Mr. Clarence Cole walked 17 miles to get his first set of food stamps!! The administrator of the program was nice enough to treat him to breakfast. #history #SNAP

The exterior of the White House dates back to the early 1800s, but not the interior! By 1948 the building was in terrible shape and in danger of collapse. Instead of demolishing it, Congress decided to pay to gut and redo the interior, and install a steel structure. #history #whitehouse

This isn't the first time the White House has sent troops to Chicago! During the Pullman Strike some strikers attacked US Mail trains, triggering a federal response.

A followup to the #sasquatch story. An editorial noting that it would be dangerous for a woman to be alone in the forest with armed men - the sasquatch was less likely to be a danger to her! Even though apparently sasquatch are attracted to human women.

When they say "bait", do they believe a male sasquatch will be attracted to a female of a complete different species, or do they think it will want to eat her? It's not clear, but the article notes that the government will be paying a grant of $344.60 for the hunt.

I'm always delighted by how similar old newspapers can be to our modern social media posts. Posting photos of cats with a "mustache" that reminds people of a certain German leader? They were doing that way back in 1940.

Portland news from 100 years ago. Three little boys ran off after their guardian hid their clothing - to prevent them from running off.

The paper says it's a mystery what clothing they are wearing, but I think I would assume there are three naked little boys running amok.
