Writing back then (well in the 90s at least, not sure if this was still a thing in the 00s) sometimes was a bout filling pages. You have no idea what stupid shit gets printed if you need to write just anything with a very tight deadline.

Not an excuse for the sexism, just for the stupidity.

Because writers, editors and the audience were immature, sexist (and very likely racist). The early 2000s were better than the 90s in this regard, but not by much.

I do like to read in old magazines. Some interesting stuff in there. But especially the sexism is enormously distracting. :/

Dune was shot well "after" the covid waves. I do expect "Mercy" was shot in 2020 or 2021 during the worst of the pandemic. Same with War of the Worlds. I do not fault these actors. I do fault the studios for actually releasing the movies (without extensive reshoots).
