*Deep breath* Reeves won't raise basic income tax rate. Maybe higher rates, which Labour explicitly ruled out. I also think that, as a pensioner with a property rental, I may have to pay NI on that income as well as tax which, despite disinformation, is already as high as if it were 'earned' income.

Strewth. Laura Kuenssberg really clutching at straws during interview with Lisa Nandy. Notions of impartrial journalism exposed as nonsense. As they were last century 🙄

I thoroughly dislike the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph. But they clearly belong together. I suspect that will be their final destinatination, whatever happens to the current ballsachingly protracted sale of the Torygraph to an opaque financial entity.

Well-paid, middle-class, middle-aged gobs on sticks whose professional success was virtually guaranteed by their Russell Group graduations should bloody well check their privilege before positing that working-class youngsters have no need to go to university to learn how to think critically. Grrr. 😠

She said she was aiming at those people who don't usually engage in politics. Well this won't land for them then, will it?
Why did Reeves give pre-Budget speech today? Added no new information.Tax rises were already a given. Didn't really provide new context. Won't change hostile press she'll get. I can only assume it was a message for the markets. But that's normaly done in coded language through specialised channels.⁉️

Farage economy speech was based on fiscal fantasies but convincingly delivered. Parts of his Essex constituency have UK's highest proportion of benefit claimants. But will they recognise his attack on their incomes? Will they still vote for him? I don't know. Trump voters lost food and health cover.

Lisa Nandy clear and powerful on latest BBC Question Time. So glad she is in Cabinet, albeit by 'default'.

The Diplomat S3: WARNING spoiler alert: Kate's 'Pretty Woman' change of mind utterly out of character and unconvincing. Disappointing end to a good season of a great series that reminds me of West Wing..although not quite in the same class.

Jenrick enjoying Lammy's discomfort far too transparently. Tenor all wrong. A more sober, dispassionate response would have been so much more effective for the creep.

According to the BBC, Nigel Farage has said his Reform MP Sarah Pochin "did not intend to be racist" when she complained about advertisements being full of black and Asian people. This is up there with Musk's non-Nazi salute and O'Brien's insistence he was holding up five fingers. Give me a break.

Am surprised by how enjoyable @theobserveruk.bsky.social continues to be. It is the last print news product I continue to buy. I thought its new owners would fuck it up. Seems they haven't.

Just heard Kamala implicitly supply it. In my words: millions of taxpayers' cash spent on flash ballroom for Trump's courtiers after it was taken from food and health subsidies of voters, and salaries of sacked Fed workers. But if the Don's the Sheriff of Nottingham, who will be Robin Hood 🤔?
That bonkers ballroom must be an analogy for something. Just can't work out what.
