The state of the UK right now...

Proud Herefordian moment. Jarrod Bowen on for England tonight and Jordan James, who went to my son's school, on for Wales. Bowen was the first Herefordian international since Kevin Sheedy, so to see two local players on opposing sides is unheard of. 🙌

Mo Salah is off to the World Cup! Not great news for the Reds that he won't get a summer break but I can't help but be pleased for Mo. 🇪🇬👑

On reflection, the oddest thing for me was not bringing on Joe Gomez but instead dropping two midfielders into defence. Absolutely bonkers!

No, not a crisis but Slot needs to decide what his best team is and stick with it for now. No midfielders in defence and start Robertson at LB would be progress. I struggle to see us winning the league after the form of the last week but at the same time I can't see us plummeting down the table.

Bradley is young though, only just turned 22. Hopefully he can iron out a few of his faults, given time.

Surely Mo earned the contract after delivering a title last season. It is a worry that he's started slowly as I don't remember him playing consistently well following an AFCON and I think we saw in midweek that Frimpong isn't the answer on the right wing.

Personally I would go with Bradley over Frimpong, based on what I've seen so far. Szobo should be in a midfield three. Salah has to start but there are games, like today, when Chiesa should get a chance on the right if Mo isn't firing.

Yeah, after this week I am starting to come to terms with the fact that this may well be a season of transition, rather than a continuation of winning ways. The likes of Wirtz and Isak will surely come good though.
jamesmaggs.bsky.social
Surely it's more his age? I am sure Mo will have more good spells but they're bound to become less frequent.
jamesmaggs.bsky.social
There were cracks there throughout last season but Mo Salah was in the form of his life and he papered over them. Wirtz and Frimpong don't deserve a start right now.

We showed some good spirit in that second half but deservedly lost.
WTF is going on for 2 of our best midfield 3 to be playing in defence? That's the sort of thing that happens in kids football.
Slot needs to decide what is best XI is, sharpish, and stick with it.

Chelsea rocking here. Put them to the sword Reds!
jamesmaggs.bsky.social
Chelsea have pressed well. Better than us anyway!

Not as bad as against Galatasaray but again we're creating hardly any chances. I still think there is a way back into this game though.
On a separate note, I can't believe Kerkez keeps getting the nod over Robertson. It makes no sense given his form.
jamesmaggs.bsky.social
I agree. There is clearly a quality player there. I am just not sure Wirtz is £116 million worth of quality player. Certainly not yet at any rate.

I've been one of those saying it will take him a season to get up to speed. Now I am starting to question whether he is just a bit slow. That's both on the ball and his sprint speed.
Hopefully it will just take time. 🤞

Yet Slot left players on the pitch that don't currently warrant a starting position. Starting to question his judgement at times. Fantastic first season where he didn't seem to put a foot wrong. He's got work to do now though.

That was the second of eight group games, so the result doesn't unduly worry me. As for the performance..
jamesmaggs.bsky.social
Shambles of a performance so far. Completely disjointed. We don't look like a team at all. Why are Wirtz, Kerkez & Konate deemed undroppable?
Hopefully we've enough quality on the bench to salvage a result but we deserve sweet FA at this point. Worrying!

Tyrrell Hatton, YOU THE MAN!
Superb performance from Europe. Thoroughly deserved overall. 🙌

Is the Orange Overlord jetting in to present the trophy to the Europeans?

Well done Shane Lowry! Absolutely legendary performance in this Ryder Cup.
