Hi, my name is Jamie! I am a PGY-1 resident physician at National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. In preparation for #ACR25, here's a little bit about myself...
Nice Liberty Square/CKS Memorial Hall postcard! 🙌
After trying a new brand of pineapple cakes and deciding that they are inferior to what Sunny Hills offers

I have again ordered The Good Stuff (pineapple cakes, apple cakes) from them for #ACR25
Don’t have a lot of south building sessions scheduled and I chronically overplan🤣🤣🤣 Switching to on-demand is always a good idea in case of conflicts, but so hard to choose sometimes
Thanks for the shoutout!🥲🥰
Not formally🤣 I brought this up in an email about something else and he said congrats🤣🤣🤣
I have my schedule all mapped out!

💚- check chicago out
💜- ACR sessions
💛- I’ll have to talk to people
🩵- free food lol
❤️- presentation 😵
Apparently my own rheumatologist will also be at #ACR25.

Wondering if he’s going to come to my session and, if so, whether he think it’s trippy to see his patient present an abstract 🤣
Also worked on the manuscript some more and attended a CVC & Airway mgmt workshop

The day has been way too productive
#ACR25 things I did today:

1. Zoom rehearsals

2. Reserving spots at the aquarium etc using Chicago CityPass

3. Locating the nearest Trader Joe’s because friends & family be wanting The Goods*

*pastel totes🙃

They just killed NHANES.

Every US public health student learns about this study.

It’s given us all sorts of important knowledge about the health of Americans and they just ended it.
Mine is 6 digits, the first of which is 0 because there aren’t 100k doctors in Taiwan yet.

I vaguely remember the second (7?) and that’s literally it 🙃
I’m grateful! I seriously can’t imagine having to aggressively do ACR stuff while juggling a regular 80-100 hour week.

But my god, the stress 🤣🤣🤣
Radiology rotation is almost like a mini sabbatical!

All I do is give CT contrast, pull out sheaths, make sure no one dies in the MRI suites, and procrastinate on the 50 reports I’ll have to complete by the end of the month.
Thank you! 😊

The working hypothesis is the flu shot doing its thing.

That, or an actual allergy to my slide deck which is on version 10 or something
These physician-patient stories are amazing 🙌
💜➡️ Diagnosed at 15, Dr. Meléndez turned her journey into a mission of hope. Today, she’s a rheumatologist and facilitator for our Puerto Rico support group, helping others find connection.

Despite being fairly immunosuppressed à la rituximab, I’ve not been sick in a very long while. Years maybe

But woke up this morning feeling a bit crummy.

Hope it’s not the flu…presentation rehearsals are in a couple of days and I have exactly one day of leave left on this rotation thanks to #ACR25
But there’s an obvious conflict of interest in this study: Dalin, located in Chiayi, Taiwan, is known for its excellent pineapples
Fun fact: 🍍 are affectionately considered bad luck by TW HCWs because they sound like busy in Taiwanese

Dalin TzuChi Hosp. even published a prospective study having a doc eat 🍍 daily for an entire yr & comparing their # of ER consults against the rest of the staff (results not stat significant 🤣)

It’s about time to place an order for pineapple/apple cakes from Sunny Hills! These pastries have a shelf life of 45 days.

Probably the best course of action would be to get them in-store a few days before leaving for #ACR25 but what if they’re out of apple?!
This year at #ACR25, I will be presenting our work, done with colleagues from BWH, on SGLT2 inhibitors and their potential role in preventing autoimmune diseases. The Emerging Investigator Excellence Award that came with it was a nice surprise, thanks @ACRheum !🥹
I'm also an avid traveler, having traveled the entire length of Japan from Hokkaido to Kyushu three times (and I'm always ready for a 4th)! Photography is one of my hobbies as well, though I'm not very good at it.
Outside of work, I am passionate about stationery, ramen, and tech. I used to be a hiker/soccer player/triathlete but currently I'm very out of shape. I still dream about keeping a tiny pet horse someday but a pup would be nice too.
