Collective punishment is always wrong. That someone from a particular ethnic community, race, or religion did something wrong doesn’t mean that we can preemptively punish everyone from that community because they might do something wrong in the future

Same for literary studies. Non-tenure-track lit studies scholars I know you're out there and publishing articles and books. And if you're tenure-track and know NTT authors, let me know about their work! I can reach out and confirm that they're cool with being listed.
Haven't received as many contributions as usual for this year's lists--could be many things, but one aspect is surely that our ability to get this in front of people is much diminished. If you know folks whose stuff should be on here, please suggest it! contingentmagazine.org/yearly-pub-l...
Publications by Non-Tenure-Track Historians

I learned a fun thing today from Will Tosh’s Acting Straight: when Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the tender age of eighteen, he became ineligible to attend Oxford or Cambridge because he was no longer a bachelor. Apparently, being a bachelor was a requirement to begin a bachelor’s degree

A play in two acts. Like all great plays, it is a comedy read left to right and a tragedy read right to left

In the archives today, I read a 15th century text that was so patronizing and racist against Indigenous Peoples in the Americas that I felt physically ill. It is like my body is rejecting the toxic nature of the archives

A very thoughtful review of “I’ll Get Right On It.” I really enjoyed working on this anthology and I am so happy to see people engaging with it: www.theseaboardreview.ca/p/ill-get-ri...

90% of archival documents research I am doing on representations of Indigenous peoples and Canada in the early modern period seems to be coming across openly racist and sexist texts. But sometimes it is worth it because you get to see fun maps, like this one that imagines Canada as a stegosaurus

I still miss my dog. His name is Marlowe and he has complicated feelings

It looks like America just had the biggest protest in history and nobody got hurt. A major headline of the day has to be the safety of the protest and the lack of police overreaction

In about three years the entire university pivot to AI curricula and schools and programs is going to be so deeply embarrassing. We will all pretend it never happened and I will be standing there, looking at people with a mirror in my eyes. This is all so embarrassing.

OMG! “I’ll get right on it” is number two in paperback fiction at McNally’s! Our book is on the same list as Vermette and Zilla Jones!

I think I want to start a book club. I want the book club to bring together very smart people to discuss a BIPOC authored book with little to no literary merit. We would read joyful smut, melodramatic horror, or silly pulp and just take a little break from the world
