#OTD in 1923, #CherryKinoshita was born. She led the movement to secure reparations and an official apology for #JapaneseAmericans who were incarcerated, helping pass landmark legislation that acknowledged these wrongs.

Happy Birthday to #SparkMasayukiMatsunaga! Born October 8, 1916, Spark Matsunaga served as U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator from #Hawaii. He was a decorated WWII veteran with the 100th Infantry Battalion. In Congress, he co-authored legislation creating the #CWRIC.

#OTD in 1942, the #JeromeWarRelocationCenter opened in the swamps of southeastern #Arkansas.
Located in the #MississippiDelta, Jerome held over 8,000 #JapaneseAmericans at its peak, making it Arkansas's sixth-largest "city" at the time.

Remembering #DaveTatsuno on his birthday. Dave secretly filmed life at #Topaz, creating the only full-color home movie documentation of Japanese American incarceration. His film "Topaz" was inducted into the #NationalFilmRegistry of the #LibraryofCongress in 1997.
