We've heard from many people who are interested in attending memorials in the United Kingdom or the United States – but Dr. Jane's wishes were that people honour her locally.

We're planning an official memorial event, which the public can attend in person and online.

"You're here for a reason. Find the reason and do your bit."

Dr. Jane knew what her reason was. And she did her part. Do you know your reason? Are you doing your part?

You can help move forward the work that Dr. Jane started: JaneGoodall.ca/RememberingJane.

"This is me. This is Jane."

As we look back on what Dr. Jane accomplished, let's also look forward – and let's see how we can advance the mission she started. Because the Jane Goodall Institute and its chapters are bigger than any one person.

Now, groups are active around the world – in 75 countries and counting! – and more than 14,000 young leaders are actively engaged in projects in Canada.

Dr. Jane was proud of that, but she knew more could be done. She knew more needed to be done. So let's do more.

Dr. Jane could not have been more clear when she spoke about youth – and the hope they gave her. She knew they had the energy, talent, and passion needed to change the world.

Decades ago, to do just that, she and twelve young people started Roots & Shoots in Tanzania.

No action is too small. What matters most is carrying forward Dr. Jane's mission of protecting the planet and inspiring others to do the same.

We are committed to continuing her hard work – and to creating a world where animals, people, and the environment can all thrive.

Thank you, Dr. Jane – for showing all of us that every person matters and every action counts, and that we can make real change happen when we work together.

Dr. Jane's passing is an immense loss, but we can honour her legacy by continuing the work she spent so much time doing.

As she loved to say: "Together, we can. Together, we will. Together, we must change the world!"

🌿 Spend time in nature to honour Dr. Jane's deep love for the natural world. Walk among the trees, watch for birds, and enjoy the fresh air.

🤝 Start a small project – awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and nature clean-ups are all great ideas.

Remember: Grieving is natural, and everyone should be encouraged to experience and deal with their grief however they wish.

To help, here are some suggestions for mourning and honouring Dr. Jane:

📝 Create a memory journal – and record your thoughts, feelings, and memories of Dr. Jane.

Dr. Jane cared deeply about young people – and many cared deeply about her, too. For some, this may be an upsetting and difficult time.

The team has prepared some resources to help them with their grief.

This past April, Dr. Jane spoke with Jann Arden about her "next great adventure."

"When you die, there's either nothing or there's something. And I happen to believe there's something," Dr. Jane said.

"And I can't think of anything more exciting than discovering what that something is."

On this #WorldAnimalDay, we're reminded that every voice matters, too.

In honour of Dr. Jane, we encourage everyone to use their voice. To speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. And to build the world that Dr. Jane pictured – where animals, people, and the environment can thrive together.
janegoodallcan.bsky.social
Dr. Jane always said that each animal matters – not only for the role they play to support life, but for their intrinsic value.

"The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves," she said.

She may no longer be with us, but we don't have to lose what she taught us. We don't have to give up on that mission.

It's now up to us to move her work forward. To advance her mission. To make choices that matter. To look back on our own lives and know that, like Dr. Jane, we made a difference.

"When nature suffers, we suffer. And when nature flourishes, we all flourish."

Dr. Jane understood that, and she worked to ensure we understood, too. She felt that animals, people, and the environment could thrive together – but each of us would have to do our part.

It is in the choices each of us make. It is in the kindness we show each other. It is in the world we work to build.

Now more than ever, we need to hear those words. We need to remember that every one of us has power, that hope is essential, and that we are here to do our best.

The legacy that Dr. Jane leaves behind isn't something we preserve in memory alone. It is something we live, day in and day out.
