Today's recipe is from Hungary - vegan gulyas! I also explore a bit of the history of gulyas and why it's a symbol of Hungary. Check it out!

This is an article about surrealism in sim games. My editor says it's not a review of Old Market Simulator. It is not a piece of self-examination. This is an article about sim games.

Reality is Optional - How Surrealness Improves Sim Games
Old Market Simulator is not a good simulation, but it is exactly what I was looking for.

This is the first time I've seen someone commenting on Stigmata on social media. It's an absolutely phenomenal book, and I'm glad to see it getting more love!

It's been a while, but mostly because this game was so massive. Divinity: Original Sin 2 may not be my favourite game of all time, but it is definitely something special. Check out my thoughts! www.jannekeparrish.com/game/divinit...

Related, but I will never listen to a voice message in a text conversation. Just write it. It's simpler for us both.

I'm super proud of this piece I wrote about Storybook Brawl and the nature of indie card game design for @summitreviews.biz. I hope you enjoy it!

Today's review is of Distrust by Cheerdealers! It has an interesting premise, but wow, did I struggle with the gameplay on this one. It definitely feels like it wasn't meant to be played solo. www.jannekeparrish.com/game/distrus...

But what do I distrust?

Absolutely second this. What's the fun in playing a game in a way that worked for someone else when I'm me and experience things in my own way? I like that sense of discovery and puzzle solving, especially for deckbuilders. That's half the fun of playing a game in the first place.

Arco is one of my favourite games that I played last year. It is absolutely stellar. :D

Today's review is of Distraint by @jessemakkonen.com. And, oh, do I have complicated thoughts about this one.

Camel Up is amazing, though. It's how I taught my baby sibling the joy of gambling and statistics. What more could you want in a board game? :D

Today's recipe is from Grenada - vegan oil down!

This is a fairly easy to make, one pot recipe that's nonetheless full of flavour. I also really enjoyed researching this one, so you know you want to read it.

I use Behind the Names, then check it against social media profiles from that country. It generally works. :)

My conspiracy theory that is almost certainly not true is that the overabundance of the term "AI" is for exactly this reason. They're normalising AI so its usage in everything becomes acceptable, even when we should be asking serious questions about the ethics of AI.

Audiosurf is amazing! It was my absolute favourite game throughout grad school, and I have many, many happy memories of crowding into a too-small bed to play multiplayer with my partner.

(I also have a review with screenshots and gameplay footage here: www.jannekeparrish.com/game/audiosu...)

I remember being salty that I had to download something just to play the game I had gotten for Christmas. And look at me now.

Look at me now.
The image displays a list of games in descending order, with the oldest being in 2010. The games listed are Fallout New Vegas, Portal 2, Skyrim, Knights of the Old Republic, and Batman Arkham City.

Today's review is of Mashina by @taloketo.bsky.social
There is so much here that I absolutely adore and which is an absolute testament to its devs. There's also some less fun elements, but you know what? Read the review for yourself. :)

Mashina Review
Mashina is worth getting for the soundtrack and visuals alone; however, I found the gameplay to be a cripplingly weak element in an otherwise stellar game.

I am sometimes infinitely sad that I will never live in Texas again. The Hill Country in spring is the most beautiful place in the world, but it is politically unsafe for me to live in Texas. So I sit here, thousands of miles away, hoping things will change, but knowing they never will.

Cases like this would take *years* to resolve, and given the current court climate, I tend to doubt Itch.io would win.

More and more people reporting today that Stripe - the payment processor that Itch said were putting the most pressure on them - now have staff actively confirming that yes, they are censoring LGBT content, adult or otherwise. That this is official company policy.

This seems kinda significant.

I'm starting to get the impression that reading Clan of the Cave Bear way too young is just a rite of passage for millennial authors.
