New #bookbingo update. Read World Fantasy Award Winner "The Tainted Cup" by Robert Jackson Bennett, and damn, I can see why this was nominated for so many awards. Amazing fantasy murder mystery that was impossible to put down. Loved it.

Time for the last featured creature from my World of Green and Black bestiary. Wanted to do something special since it'll be the last one for a while, so enjoy learning about bears. Very, very big bears.

The World of Green and Black Featured Creature
Welcome back to the World of Green and Black Bestiary. I wanted to do something special for this one, because it might be the last featured creature for a while. Next year I'm thinking of doing a different monthly thingy. hat doesn't mean there won't be anymore feature creatures, but they'll be saved for special occasions. With that in mind, let's get to the last creature of the year, the bear.

The shooting is disturbing enough, and I knew the discourse around it would be rough. But ofc LLMs are coming along and making things worse.

Huge respect for Ahmed al Ahmed.
Not only are LLMs speedrunning a post-truth world where actual heroes who stop violent crimes get erased, but they have already contributed to convincing people to commit violent crimes.

Love yourself too much to let yourself be poisoned.
This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

An absolute tragedy. I was really hoping that I'd never see something like this happen in my country again, and my heart goes out to all the victims.
UPDATE:

New South Wales (Australia) Police confirm 10 people killed in mass shooting at Bondi, Sydney. Including multiple injuries.
Police advise people to ‘take shelter’ following reports of shooting at Bondi beach with two in custody.
The Guardian.

First mass shooting in Australia since 1996 in Port Arthur, Tasmania.

#bookbingo Update time! Got two bingos by filling the 'Title Starts with 'O'' challenge with 'One Step From Earth' by Harry Harrison. Thought-provoking short story collection about teleporters and their impact on humanity. Highly recommended.

Thank you everyone who has been reading my work this year. Read here to see what I've achieved in 2025.
My 2025 Wrap-Up
2025 is almost over, and I managed to get a lot done. Not as much as I would have liked, but there's been some downs this year, so that's to be expected. At the start of the year I set myself a few goals, so now it's time to see how I went. These were my 2025 goals: Post monthly artwork related to the World of Green and Black series…

More nature in my backyard. Saw a tawny frogmouth sitting in the tree, acting like a branch. So beautiful... even if it may have eaten the tadpoles in my frogpond.

2025 Book Bingo Reviews #4
Got another book bingo. So time for another set of reviews. We've got a bunch of really good stories here... plus one I hated. But talking about books I didn't like is sort of fun. Anyway, can't waste too much time on an intro; I still have six squares to fill and I'm running out of 2025. __________________________________________ Challenge: Locas Award for Best Horror Winner…

Science is so awesome
Science will often take you to unexpected and delightful places. In this study, researchers hypothesized that riders in a crowded subway car would be more likely to offer their seat to a pregnant person if there were someone in the subway car dressed as Batman 🧪🦇

It's #BINGO time on my #BookBingo card. Read the Amazing Locus Award for Best Horror Novel Winner (2023) "What Moves the Dead" by T. Kingfisher. A wonderful, disturbing novella that I couldn't put down. Based on a Poe story that I should probably read too.

#bookbingo update! Filled the "Written between 1930-1950" square with 'The Case of Charles Dexter Ward' by #Lovecraft. Found out after starting it was actually written in 1927 but first published in the 40s. I'll call it close enough this late in the year. Top Tier Lovecraft.
