Our discovery that there were numerous basic errors in the response to an important emergency habeas petition we filed let to another discovery: they had done it before, and a local judge had even warned them about using AI to write briefs seeking to jail people.

Things got more bizarre, and we have now been forced to take the case to the California Supreme Court. At stake isn't just the government using AI hallucinations, but the integrity of the legal system, which depends on citations to evidence and precedent to create shared truths.
