I'm trying to be a little less antsy about self-promoting and accepting support, so I'm going to sneak in here late at night to drop my ko-fi ko-fi.com/jayjbird94 for any enjoyers of the AotM saga so-inclined. I'd do it all anyway, but y'know, putting out a tip jar never hurts.

I also love the Adam hallucinations because beyond her infatuation with him, he was her impulse control and also her biggest enabler, she did not make a decision or express an opinion without his validation, so now, in his absence, his "ghost" is effectively a green light for her to do her worst.

My guess on his choice: self-preservation first, then a last minute heel-face turn at the climax to the self-sacrificing decision, suffering horrible consequences but underscoring the show's premise that anyone can choose to do the right thing, no matter how deep a hole they've dug themselves.

My hopes for Alastor this season: getting utterly humbled and being forced to figure out how to rely on others opens him up to becoming the Vegeta - in order to make it really HURT when his Dealmaker imposes a decision between selfishness and sacrifice in season 3, and we find out which he chooses.

I feel like Val and Vel are gonna learn the hard way why Alastor refused Vox’s proposal
Like I’m sure they see the signs of his superior attitude
But I think it’s gonna be a real problem when it starts affecting THEM rather than everyone else

For similar themes of "forbidden movie/play drives those who watch or act in it insane", also consider Black Flame by Gretchen Felker-Martin (also highly queer) and Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.

Nice! I'm so glad you were motivated to buy them! A Game In Yellow by Hailey Piper is part of the mythos (and also queer-written!) and The Thing in Yellow by D.T. Neal is a short story collection I'm enjoying so far.

That's the exact point where I most understand my brother with ADHD. When you can't get over the executive dysfunction to do the thing you SHOULD be doing, keep a few lower priority tasks on the burner to divert to while procrastinating on the first thing. It's my favorite cheatcode.

That deeply autistic mood when you can't summon the flow state to actually write your fic, but you're suddenly voraciously motivated to go back and render all non-American characters' dialogue in UK English to imply accents when not rendered phonetically or through slang.

I know it can't all be a one-to-one comparison, and I keep wiki-diving and surfing sub-reddits to pick up more historical context, but I have to have made somebody cringe at least once by having her use slang incorrectly. I know my Baba Yaga's Russian was rough to say the least.

But as an American who gets his info on Oz from Aussie-hosted true crime podcasts, I wonder what cultural tropes I gave her as a Queenslander/describing her as a "bogan" from an American understanding of "redneck" as a crass but hardy blue collar ruralite w/ less access to higher education. +
