Poll watch: Almost 7 in 10 Americans (69%) are concerned about finding affordable health insurance, according to a Scripps News survey. And a quarter of the 1,000 people polled think health care affordability is the biggest issue facing the U.S., yet the Senate Democrats folded like a cheap suit.

Amid the fight over SNAP during the longest government shutdown in history, DJT spent the last weekend at Mar-a-Lago, where he hosted another extravagant dinner party complete with scallops, beef filet, and ice sculptures. I guess this is his version of Marie Antoinette’s “let them eat cake”.

I am still so depressed and angry from the Senate Democrats’ cave in. They showed they aren’t up to the task of standing up to the bully DJT as they are built right now. Time to get “young blood” in there since Schumer and company have no backbone. Until then, quit asking me for my money or my vote!

Statistic of the day - $2.5 billion: The amount of money governments gave out daily to fossil fuel producers in 2023, according to a study from University College London. This has contributed to one person dying every minute around the world from rising temperatures.

Hey DJT, I know you keep trying to distract us with all sorts of your BS, but it is time for my twice-a-week reminder - When do you plan on releasing the complete and unredacted Epstein files? Why? Because ANY pedophile should be held accountable, regardless of party affiliation.

Thanks Democratic Surrender Caucus (pictured below) for convincing me to never give another penny to any candidate in the future. Or as Annette Bening said to Michael Douglas in An American President, “You didn’t just lose me, you lost my vote”. Forget TACO; it’s DACI (Democrats Always Cave In)!

None of this is complicated,” Tom Bonier wrote about last Tuesday’s Democratic victories. “The GOP ran on affordability in 2024. They gave sanctimonious lectures on cable news on election night about how the ‘silent working class majority’ had spoken. Then they governed as reckless authoritarians.”

Paul Krugman - If we’re talking about extremists within the party, Democrats have people like Mamdani, a mild-mannered guy who says he’s a socialist but really isn’t. The GOP, by contrast, has been largely taken over by outright fascists, and is facing a major outbreak of old-fashioned antisemitism.

Poll result of the day: 78% of Americans want the tax credits for the ACA extended. That includes 59% of Republicans. Only 22% don’t want them extended. So DJT is refusing even to negotiate with Democrats to end the shutdown when almost 80% of all Americans want what the Democrats are demanding.

Just a reminder: What the Senate Dems are insisting on before agreeing to a CR is the extension of the premium tax credits that support the ACA healthcare insurance marketplace. Without them, millions of people will be unable to afford healthcare insurance and costs will skyrocket for millions more.

Poll watch: Almost half of the public (49%) think freedom of speech is facing a “major threat,” while 43% believe the same about freedom of the press, according to an AP-NORC survey.

Paul Krugman: So, to repeat, the party at Mar a Lago wasn’t a case of tone deafness … It was in large part a party held to celebrate others’ suffering. … DJT understood that he was partying while ordinary Americans were suffering. And that understanding was a big reason he enjoyed the event.

Pleading ignorance of an outrage or that a question is “out of his lane” has become so frequent for Mike Johnson that journalist Aaron Rupar suggested that journalists start asking Johnson: “Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it’s problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?”

J.D. Vance dismissed the Young Republicans’ racist chats as “stupid” jokes made by “kids,” although the 8 members of the chat included a Vermont state senator, chief of staff for a member of the New York Assembly, a staffer in the Kansas AG’s office, and an official at the US Small Business Admin.

DJT’s administration is claiming it does not have to consult Congress to continue its attacks on Venezuela. The 1973 War Powers Act says it does. The law requires a president to get the approval of Congress for any hostilities lasting more than 60 days. DJT refuses to do this, now 61 days later!

Poll watch: Nine out of 10 Americans (90%) at least sometimes come across news they think is inaccurate, according to a Pew Research Center survey. Over half of the 5,153 adults polled (51%) also believe it’s difficult to determine the difference between real and fake news.

Government is shut down, and so apparently is the House. Speaker Mike Johnson has kept the House on an indefinite hiatus over the last month. That decision has halted the work of passing bills and doing oversight while also blocking the swearing-in of a new Dem representative, much to DJT’s delight!
