I’m sure Aquilini considers himself a shrewd businessman. But it doesn’t take much to realize that what the graphic below shows, which is a shameful lack of assets, maybe the worst in the league, is a terrible recipe for business success.

The only way to explain where the Canucks are on this graphic is that either Canucks mgmt sucks, or the mandate given by the owner sucks. Could be both, but I think it’s the latter.

The Hurricanes have proved that maxing out on draft capital does not mean you have to tear things down to rebuild. I dislike the term actually. They are in constant retool. Part of retooling should be maximizing draft capital while remaining competitive.

It’s pretty clear that Thatcher Demko was given an elite goaltending mind and athleticism to match, but his body was not made for the rigours of that position. There are so many similar stories of great athletes whose bodies let them down. #Canucks

Canucks are in the zone where as prudent management you shift to maximizing draft capital. See if you can double or triple your picks in the first three rounds. Call it what you want. They need a plan to improve assets at all positions over the next 3 years.
