Isn’t he like 90 now?

When was the last time you tried to get an apt in any major urban area without making $100k?

The basic needs of living were much more easily met by most people 1939 to 1970. For example, if you’re poor, try finding an SRO or boarding house these days.
November 24, 2025 at 9:53 PM
Yeah, but why are people so slobby now?

I love those old photos of everyone dressed for travel. It all ended in about 1970.
November 24, 2025 at 9:43 PM
With these leaders we’re always stuck with in this country why can’t it ever be like “Finance the next Orson Welles picture”?

Gotta move to France for that I guess.
November 24, 2025 at 9:41 PM
But what constitutes a “clearly illegal” order?

That’s the problem. How do they patrol the streets without this knowledge? The massacre stuff is easy to figure out. But what about the many other possible illegal orders?

In other words, how do they know for sure what to defy?
November 24, 2025 at 9:37 PM
IF they get assigned to the cities. Which is the big fear isn’t it?
November 24, 2025 at 9:30 PM
That’s the easy stuff. What about other types of illegal orders, of which there would be many?

Such as being ordered to harass city residents without PC. What soldier would know what was or wasn’t?

When I was homeless the only thing that kept me off the street was the availability of Airbnb shared rentals. The ones with the tenant present.

So you don’t want to ban everything short term.
November 24, 2025 at 7:04 PM
You mean where the full unit was rented out short term and not leased to regular tenants.

That’s bad. But there’s nothing wrong with Airbnb and other places that help facilitate someone who just wants to share their spare bedroom or couch.

These bans usually end up blocking everyone. Not good.
November 24, 2025 at 7:01 PM
Didn’t Trump specifically state in that later interview that they didn’t deserve death for this?

He was talking about historical precedent wasn’t he?

To be accurate?
November 24, 2025 at 6:39 PM
But what constitutes an “unlawful order”?

They’re not all easy to figure out like My Lai. How’s a soldier to be sure what is and isn’t one?

Just refuse anything you don’t like?
November 24, 2025 at 6:37 PM
I’m from LA, and the more I traveled around the country the more I realized that most of the country’s older suburbs were just like LA’s. And that most people in the U.S. lived this same way, which was a surprise.

It was kind of disappointing when it came to national flavor. Boring almost.
November 24, 2025 at 3:46 PM
The contemporary popular ones were quite representative. Were you there?

Most people 1939-1970 had it easier when it came to obtaining basic needs. We had a large, flourishing middle class and a strong and effective labor movement.

I said BASIC needs.

Arguing against this is what’s dipshit.
November 24, 2025 at 3:40 PM
You really think the south Bronx or Appalachia were typical of the U.S. post war?

They were extremes. Most people were middle class at one level or another and doing pretty well or better when it came to the basics. It was easier than now.

Why this need to refute that clear fact? It’s obtuse.
U.post
November 24, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Those stats btw are averages that were weighted down by the extremes— which back then were really extreme.

There was a flourishing middle class in the wartime and post-war years that was much more flourishing than it is now.

Why is anyone trying to argue with this clear fact? Basic life was easier
November 24, 2025 at 3:17 PM
It’s called the historical reality for most people in the U.S. from about 1939 to 1971 or so.

I said most. Not all.

It was a very wealthy country that —btw— paid for nice things by taxing the rich.
November 24, 2025 at 3:13 PM
And that teacher had a MUCH easier time of getting her own apartment.

And paying for college.

And obtaining health care, as basic as it was.
November 24, 2025 at 3:09 PM
It is a fact. You ever watch old TV shows?

You think they were just being made for 20 percent of the population?

Were you there? Do you know how people lived, and what it took to get just the basics?

Did you know that we once had a flourishing middle class?
November 24, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Where were these places?

Most did, and it was more affordable to the average person than now.

You know guys, some of us were around back then. It was easier for most people to get by back then than now.

The amenities? Sure there are more now. But housing didn’t take up 50+ percent of your pay.
November 24, 2025 at 3:04 PM
You’re making it a gender issue.
November 24, 2025 at 2:59 PM
I said the cost of education.

The amount that it cost to go to school. Are you aware of how cheap tuition was back then?

In many cases in many states it was FREE.
November 24, 2025 at 2:58 PM
I said education was cheaper. Not that more people were educated.

Those numbers are also seriously watered down by the larger amount of completely illiterate citizens back then, which was not typical of the country at large.

It’s an AVERAGE, guys.
November 24, 2025 at 2:56 PM
Most people had a much easier time getting by in this country pre-1970 when it came to obtaining basic necessities.

It’s dumb for anyone to be arguing against this fact.

I said “most” people. Not all. Generalizing from those smaller numbers is no refutation.
November 24, 2025 at 2:53 PM
The extreme poverty rate which weighted these numbers down was centered in the inner cities and Appalachia. Not most of the country.

You know guys, some of us were there. And we weren’t blind. There was a huge middle class (much bigger than now) that was getting by pretty well.
November 24, 2025 at 2:47 PM
For much of the country it was.
