~ reaches beyond the classroom.

Finally, letting them know “You’re not a bad kid, your actions don’t define you; but you the power to choose better and I believe you can.”

At its heart, this is about giving students not just protection, but permission; to speak, to heal, to change.

~ ecosystem that supports a child. If parents are not available, other teachers and staff will be. By reaching out, and ensuring caregivers/fellow educators are in the loop, students gain a broader safety net that ~
~ not respond to a string of emails regarding scholar misbehaviours and completely ignore bids to meet with myself or admin. However, every child has a network, or the potential for a network that can be engaged.

Teachers, counselors, and parents form the ~

Sometimes though, contacting parents can worsen behavior OR do absolutely nothing. I have had parents ~

Programs like peer mentoring or buddy systems help reduce isolation and build trust between ~

Something I’ve given a lot of thought to and have looked into, because I understand and have come to know scholars who are involved in bullying and realised that they also NEED help.

What I’ve learned is that it can be a process and not one size fits all. Rather ~

I’m grateful my school puts in the work in this regard especially.

Not all educators receive robust training in restorative practices, trauma-informed teaching, or ~

Understanding HIB reporting protocols, school policies, and student privacy laws demands ongoing professional development and vigilance.

Teachers may unintentionally downplay incidents due to biases or misunderstandings ~

What doesn’t it affect? Responding to HIB can take an emotional toll on educators, especially when they witness students in distress or face pushback from families or administration. Teachers must walk a fine line between disciplinarian and advocate, particularly when ~

Check-ins are regular, presentations are shown during PDs to keep everyone on the same page as procedures change and evolve.

My administration, especially the Dean of Climate and Culture, with the tireless help of the Counciling Team, has been incredibly proactive in handling instances of bullying, intimidation, and harassment. Using Dean’s List, we can send referrals which are responded to and ~

~ scholars grow and knew them rather well. I was provided with just as much insight, if not more so, than even the parents I reached out to.

Parents have been very, very receptive to me as a new teacher and I’ve had some wonderful interactions that have also been useful in maintaining a positive ~

I reach out to parents and my fellow colleagues quite regularly. We had issues this year with scholar conflict and I spent a lot of my free time touching base with colleagues I knew had been at the school for over 4 years. They’d spent those years watching many of those ~
