1. GG need co-designing: full consultation of people living in the country and effected by the projects, not just
announcements from Brussels.
2. Partner countries are not battlefields for geopolitical rivalries.

Yesterday, on the eve of the EU's #GlobalGateway Forum, organisations monitoring GG projects in Africa, Central Asia and Europe provided their perspective on 4 years of its operations- views that might not be voiced during the forum given the limited CSO participation. 🧵

#FfD4 is far from the milestone for global economic governance reform it could have been.

For #CivilSociety, it's clear that the job is not done. We need real reform, not a watered-down consensus.

The EU has to try harder to come up with a credible offer for #FfD4. The #debt crisis - exacerbated by #climate emergencies - and drastic #aid cuts make international cooperation more urgent than ever.

We welcome the call to create a system for Parliamentary oversight over capital flows from NDICI-the EU's aid instrument- to ensure they align with the dedicated targets for #development and not the EU's geopolitical priorities.

Just 4 countries met their #aid commitment in 2024, while 24 countries met their commitment to defence. @jeansaldanha.bsky.social asks if there is this political commitment to sacrifice strongly held debt & deficit ceilings for defence, what is stopping them from doing so for #development?

My message with @oxfameu.bsky.social & @actionaideu.bsky.social as #FfD4 negotiations resume today: The EU can ensure finance serves sustainable development and a climate just future. Promoting half baked initiatives or institutions that are limited in so many ways is simply not credible.

The world is facing an unprecedented crisis, and right now we need a @ec.europa.eu that champions multilateralism.

#FfD4 this June is a key chance for the #EU to walk the talk and strengthen the #UN's role in #development. Yet, their engagement so far has been disappointing.

#FfD4 offers a chance to reshape global economic rules & tackle the drivers of instability, & it’s happening in Europe for the 1st time.
In today's meetings w/ UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Ministers must push for #UN-led reforms on:
✅ Sovereign #debt
✅ Int’l #development
✅ #UNTaxConvention

#CivilSociety are in New York this week advocating for #aid and #DevelopmentCooperation.
In Session 1, delegates were reminded that #aid and security are not competing priorities, rather #ODA can help ensure peace.
