Bivouac face au Montaigu et au Pic du Midi de Bigorre dimanche dernier, avec juste une éclaircie entre deux bancs de nuages d’altitude pour capturer ce magnifique ciel d’hiver.
A l’horizon ouest, Vénus reste extrêmement brillante bien que prise dans les cirrus. De là, une légère lumière s’élève en diagonale : il s’agit de la « lumière zodiacale », cette lueur due à la réflexion de la lumière du Soleil par les poussières présentes dans l’espace autour de la Terre. Dans sa direction, plus haut, un amas d’étoiles bleutées : les Pléiades. Puis un autre astre brillant, Jupiter. Et tout en haut un peu à gauche on retrouve la troisième planète bien visible cet hiver, c’est Mars et sa reconnaissable teinte cuivrée.
La Voie lactée dessine quant à elle une arche légèrement plus lumineuse, s’élevant depuis l’horizon sud-est pour disparaître à droite de l’image. Les taches roses des nébuleuses colorent le ciel, notamment dans la constellation d’Orion au centre.
Et à droite enfin, une petite tache verticale et allongée : la galaxie d’Andromède.

On the western horizon, Venus remained extremely bright, albeit caught in cirrus clouds. From here, a faint light rises diagonally: this is “zodiacal light”, the glow caused by the reflection of sunlight by dust in space around the Earth. Further up, a cluster of bluish stars: the Pleiades. Then another bright celestial body, Jupiter. And at the very top, a little to the left, we find the third planet to be clearly visible this winter, Mars and its recognizable copper hue.
The Milky Way forms a slightly brighter arch, rising from the south-eastern horizon and disappearing to the right of the image. The pink patches of nebulae colour the sky, particularly in the constellation of Orion in the center.
And on the right, a small, elongated vertical spot: the Andromeda galaxy.

Nuit d’hiver au clair de lune illuminant les imposantes montagnes du Cirque de Lescun. Dans le ciel, on retrouve les constellations emblématiques du ciel d’hiver, avec de gauche à droite : l’étoile Sirius, la plus brillante du ciel nocturne ; puis Orion vers le centre, reconnaissable à ses trois étoiles proches et alignées au milieu de la constellation, et avec en-dessous la petite tache rosée de la Nébuleuse d’Orion ; et vers la droite l’étoile Aldébaran et la tête du Taureau en forme de V.

Le Pic du Midi d'Ossau, haut de 2884m, est un des plus hauts sommets des Pyrénées occidentales et semble s'élancer vers le ciel. J'avais imaginé depuis longtemps le capturer en pleine nuit accompagné de la Voie lactée, depuis un point de vue spectaculaire qui lui fait face.
Ici, la photo nocturne à longue pose révèle les détails et couleurs du cœur de la Voie lactée surplombant le Pic d'Ossau, avec notamment la tache rose de la nébuleuse de la Lagune, une zone active de formation d'étoiles dans notre galaxie.

The Pic du Midi d'Ossau, 2884m high, is one of the highest peaks in the western Pyrenees and seems to soar into the sky. I had long imagined capturing it at night, accompanied by the Milky Way, from a spectacular vantage point facing it.
Here, long exposure night photography reveals the details and colors of the heart of the Milky Way overhanging the Pic d'Ossau, including the pink spot of the Lagoon Nebula, an active star-forming zone in our galaxy.
