D & R party switching happens EVERY election, so it’s ‘expected’. Rs and Ds are players; Nader shouts from the sidelines, a confounding variable - a bug, not a feature. The D & R parties are behemoths; Nader, one man, had full power to end his bid and endorse Ds but didn’t. No Nader, no win for W.

I can slam Dems ‘til the cows come home. I want everything Bernie wants. But I’m also smart enough to know that once we have our general in place, the Left better damn well unite to defeat Rs b/c they are a literal death cult. Nader cut off a piece of the Left for himself in 2000. Unforgivable.

You don’t see the contradiction in your argument? After 12 yrs of Reagan/HW and radical Newt’s takeover in ‘95, you think Dems weren’t ‘Green’ enough in 2000? Is that why some FL Dems voted for W, b/c Gore was too conservative? Pa-lease. Politics is ballet; Nader was a breakdancing wrecking ball.

You can howl to the moon about how unfair a Gore V Bush general came to be, but god dammit it happened. That was our reality when Nader stepped in and said Don’t Vote For Gore. FYI, you greatly undervalue the politics for Dems in the 90s, and yes, Bill did have to move right to win.

Crying about a Nepo baby (in a contest with Bush Jr. no less) feels more like mental gymnastics to me. I don’t need time on the high bar to see that Gore would have picked up .5 percent of Nader’s votes had he endorsed Gore. Nader LIED about Gore/W equivalency & the efficacy of voting lesser evil.

Gore lost FL by 537 votes. Had Nader endorsed Gore, Gore would have won. Vote switching is expected, Republican dirty tricks ( SCOTUS) are expected. Nader was uniquely odious in his false equivalency and anti strategic voting stances. To deny his role in electing W is to deny reality.

That’s all good, I guess. I’m just sensitive to Dem bashing as it adds to the anti-Dem zeitgeist which only helps Republicans; after Nader 2000 and Sanders 2016, I argue for unambiguous support for Dems. Don’t get me wrong, I know they’re flawed, but no party is better positioned to defeat MAGA.
