Both of my genetic grandpas and my step-grandpa enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WWII. I don’t know (or at least remember) what Grandpa Tex & Grandpa Archie did. Grandpa Speed (my maternal grandpa) was a deck gunner on a merchant marine ship. He told me that the shifts were four hours on and four off.
