It's exactly what I was looking for! I was watching a streamer play the new rouge-like Megabonk and It uses the same rarity color system so it got me thinking. Thanks for doing the research!

There are of course other games that used color to denote rarity like Everquest and DAoC but I was curious about the specific color system of Grey, White, Green, Blue, Purple, Orange and it seems that was WoW that popularized that color combo.

I was curious as to where the rarity colors that pretty much every game uses now originated. It seems that it comes from a game called Angband from 1992. It was then adapted by Diablo and further popularized by World of Warcraft!
