I'm rereading "I was a Teenage Slasher" by @sgj.bsky.social and I had already forgotten what a love letter this book is to growing up in the desert in the 80's. I love this book so damn much. Lita Ford, the smell of creosote, FFA jackets, and small town nights. Man, what a time it was.

My heart is with you. That's a deep and profoundly altering loss. Take all the time you need.

My Goodreads review of @alexgrecian.bsky.social's novella, "The Boatman." It's a fast-paced exploration of the race between life and death. In 150 pages, it delves into humanity, fear, frailty, and gives us a sprinkling of eco-horror. @badhandbooks.bsky.social

Jennifer Farris's review of The Boatman
Shortly after the Maria Calypso embarks on her fateful cruise, they find themselves pursued by a white-suited man poling a boat gently along behind them. As they race to keep ahead of The Boatman, the...

I shall never forgive the town of Derry for Richie. Never.

And we're going to get some rain here in AZ so you can get that creosote smell.

@talkscaredpod.bsky.social @keithrosson.bsky.social I had an ARC of "Coffin Moon" and "my love mattered more than yours" struck me profoundly. I'm deeply acquainted with that bitch grief and found myself aligning with Varley in that moment. Right or wrong, I understood. Maybe we are psychopaths? 😂

Salem's Lot followed by Pet Sematary. When you combine that with the fact that I lived in the open desert without a lot of people around, I was a mess who double checked window locks.

I’m so, so sad I can’t make it and you don’t come to Arizona!

It depends on the book and what the footnotes are adding. I recently read a digital ARC with footnotes so it was easy to flip to them and back again. But only about 1/4 of them were worth the additional read.

My youngest bought me the most beautiful gift! A signed copy of “The Buffalo Hunter Hunter”!
Look at the glory of those sprayed edges! I’ve never seen a more beautiful book! And the dust jacket? It’s been ages since I’ve seen one. I’m in love. #bestbookof2025 @sgj.bsky.social

Put down a few words in a politically themed short horror story this morning. Is it too campy? Is it too on the nose? Only time will tell.

I'm working on a new short story, and I'm struggling with the opening scene. Primarily, I wonder how far is too far? How do I make this outlandish point without tipping over into parody?

@adamcesare.bsky.social My daughter brought me a shelf trophy for the kindle read and I finally got to watch the movie. I really enjoyed it!

Are they filming in Monterey? I’m visiting in August and wondering if I might glimpse a set?

When will the replay be available? I missed part of it.

What is your process for character creation? And, do you have a method to help yourself get into the atmosphere of your work? Playlists, audiobooks? Anything like that.

Just rewatched it last night. Flawed or not, I love that movie. And Lupita Nyong’o is absolutely stellar.

My niece hooked it up with a poster from the theater she used to manage.

Thank you! That's so very kind! I just didn't want to receive an ARC and delay the review without any explanation. I enjoy writing book reviews and would like to continue. Thank you, again!

@ericlarocca.bsky.social I just got the ARC of “We Are Always Tender.” I appreciate the warnings. I recently started grief/trauma therapy. I feel as though I’m digging scars out of my soul with blunted and bloody fingernails. As much as I adore your prose, I may have to sit on this one a bit first.

It is very well deserved!!

@sgj.bsky.social My husband's uncle was Tohono O'odham and every time Good Stab says "like this" I think of him and hearing him tell stories.
