Never understood why people thought going to the dentist was awful - until today (and according to my dentist I have a mild sensitivity in one tooth due to teeth grinding 🥲). Tooth pain/ sensitivity is no joke!

Methylthio-alkane reductases use nitrogenase metalloclusters for carbon–sulfur bond cleavage
Nature Catalysis, Published online: 23 October 2025; doi:10.1038/s41929-025-01426-2Methylthio-alkane reductases are recently discovered enzymes that can produce methanethiol and small hydrocarbons from methylated sulfur compounds. Now the cryo-EM structure of a methylthio-alkane reductase complex is solved, revealing large metalloclusters previously observed only within nitrogenases.

Our latest work on the nitrogenase-like methylthio-alkane reductase, which specifically reduces reduces carbon-sulfide bonds is now out @natcatal.nature.com: doi.org/10.1038/s419.... We find for the first time large #nitrogenase metalloclusters (P- and L-cluster) outside nitrogenases.

The Jessica from two years ago could never believe she would struggle this much to fit the contents of a grant proposal in 10 pages…
