New podcast episode: I joined the Autistic Culture Podcast to talk MCAS, neurodivergence, and recovering from the chaos of Covid + mold + medical gaslighting.

It's a lot—but also hopeful.

Long Covid has stolen health, careers, and stability from millions. For many, it triggered MCAS, POTS, and unrelenting fatigue.

This is a mass disabling event, and we still don’t have the research or treatment we need.

We can’t let this fade into silence. #LongCovidAwarenessDay 💜

If you have #LongCovid symptoms that you have not been able to figure out how to get beyond and you're STILL suffering, there is a more than 75% chance you have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. Yes. It's true. And I want you to stop suffering this alone and get better. There IS a way.

TW: Animal stress, food processing

Did you know that stress levels before slaughter can increase histamine levels in meat? And that ground or aged meats tend to have even more histamine buildup? If you have histamine intolerance or MCAS, this could explain 🧵 (1/8)

RFK Jr. leading HHS is a fucking disaster.

For the disability, MCAS, & Long Covid communities, for medical research & public health—this is DANGEROUS. This man has pushed conspiracy theories over science for years, & now he’ll oversee the very systems that protect (or fail) us. 1/2

MCAS recovery is frustrating because progress isn’t always linear. One day you’re thriving, the next, a mystery flare takes you out.

🔹 It’s not failure.
🔹 It is feedback.

Your body isn’t against you—it’s learning. Healing happens in patterns, not straight lines. Keep going. 💜

Roses are red, violets are blue, we can’t have chocolate… but white chocolate will do. 💔💜

Histamine intolerance means skipping milk/dark chocolate, but white chocolate? Technically low histamine. Controversial? Absolutely. Like pineapple on pizza. 🍕🍍

Love it? Hate it? Let’s hear it. 👀

Did you know that viruses (like Covid 🦠) actually reshapes the body. It hits the gut, the nervous system, and for many, flips the mast cell switch into semi-permanent overdrive.

🔹 The gut: Viral damage disrupts DAO production, making it harder to break down histamine.

Women’s health. NIH. Erased
The entire website for the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is very nearly stripped bare. This is so, so devastating. orwh.od.nih.gov/research/fun...

Here’s a weird one: Did you know stress scrolling through social media can cause a massive histamine spike?

Stress signals your mast cells to release more histamine, making flares even worse.

Solution: Log off when you feel it creeping in. 💜 These past few weeks have been a LOT - protect yourself.

Plus the effects go beyond the research at the institutions b/c the loss of funds (indirects) can affect many other things there. Losing faculty/ lab staff means local economies also suffer.

This really outlines the labor of the granting process on all ends. Excellent @choo.bsky.social

Viral-triggered MCAS can feel like your body is constantly overreacting, like your mast cells are stuck in overdrive—because they ARE . I’ve been there—reacting to everything, feeling hopeless. But it’s not permanent. 1/2

Freezing NIH funding and withdrawing from the WHO isn’t just shameful—it’s deadly. Public health relies on research, collaboration, and preparedness. These actions leave us vulnerable, and lives will be lost. Shadows rise when we abandon the light of progress and care. 🌗✨

Let me make myself abundantly clear: healthcare and food are inherently political. If you’re asking me to 'stay out of politics,' you don't know who I am or how this works. Not in this world, not when the stakes are this high. 1/4

Still reacting to a few 'safe' low-histamine foods?
MCAS science drop: When mast cells are overactive, they don't just react to histamine - they can degranulate in response to oxalates and salicylates too. That's why some 'safe' low-histamine foods might still trigger you. 1/2 #MCAS #longcovid

Over the years, I’ve witnessed how critical safe spaces are for those of us navigating MCAS. With *certain platforms* removing the ability to flag misinformation—AND exposing our health data to risks—I’ve decided it’s time to act. I cannot stay silent or expose our community to further risk. 1/4
