Happy Friday everyone! Fancy a brand new #ZXSpectrum game to get your teeth into this weekend?

Well let me help you out: welcome to Castle Rooj!

Roojliek is a classic ASCII rogue-like for the 48K ZX Spectrum, can you survive long enough to escape?

Dont even know what that is, I know generic American and cowboy - the latter being the one that morphs into Welsh

Yes and no - not American accents.
January 13, 2026 at 3:34 PM
It morphs to another region half way through

Thats double what I can do!

Rookie mistake on my part

I do call them hoovers, and use it as a verb too.

The worst thing is I searched before posting to make sure I wasnt spelling it wrong and only paid attention to the AI overview which went with "alan"

I've just seen an alan key referred to as a hex wrench and now my day is ruined.

To 16 bits and beyond!

That is quite a journey! I remember drooling over adverts for CPCs and the SAM Coupe - Commodore and Acorn stuff never managed to grab my attention (not that I'd have ever got my hands on them anyway)

My 8 bits consisted of the Speccy, an XEGS (mostly shunned due to not having the right cable to save any programs I wrote) and the SMS.

My mate had an Amiga and I did spend a lot of time at his house tinkering with AMOS on it so comes in a close second.

Make the most of it, days are getting longer ☹️
January 12, 2026 at 7:18 AM
Mondays dont get any easier do they 😒

There is plenty of him to go round!

Always nice to see Chubby on my timeline

Ending off the weekend with this little soldier. Whilst the rest of his squadron fell over Christmas he remained hidden and out of sight at the back of the cupboard - until now.

I grew up with the ZX Spectrum but came of age with MSDOS.
January 11, 2026 at 5:39 PM
I emulating so the CD not a problem, not being able to read the text could be though 😆
January 11, 2026 at 3:25 PM
Fully intending to pick this up again, start with some simple games like Black Hole.
Started tinkering with something different tonight. A sort of BBS that's just a bunch of text based Speccy sim/strat/management games that have been ported over ready to play online!

Happy to take any suggestions

Lovely stuff!

I'll try not to leave it so long before the next one, and possibly try RetroArch on my mini PC - see if that does a better job than the emulator I was using tonight.

It was July I last looked at PC Engine games, which is waaay too long! So, for tonight's stream I'm going to fix that.

8pm GMT over on twitch, let's see what awaits us!
