Kinda nostalgic & kinda struck with a particular mental image, I immediately sat down and drew this in one go. It’s not as polished or as nice as the original ciel lilies, but it was fun mixing it up, using a bunch of the same themes and motifs (curtainveil, white blouse, sunlight, and ofc, lilies.)

b) I was struck with this mental image of those early 2000s vocaloid/fandom MVs that were just 20-30 pngs of a character the uploader found online smushed together panning-slideshow-style and put up for all to view.

After tuning Say Love You, I actually was going to just reuse cielilies for the video when posting it, but I both felt that:

a) I already post ciellilies way too much (it’s attached to every synthv video I’ve put out) and

I’m not sure I could capture it again. And I don’t think I quite have with this “new” drawing / redrawing either. Though I also think my mindset and approach for this one was very different, so I wouldn’t compare them!

I’ve always admired artwork where the artist bothered to paint in the delicate little veins in flower petals, and to this day I still feel very nostalgic about ciellilies. Something about it feels classic and timeless, and deeply romantic.

I remember it taking a loooooong time and spread out over many weeks with an agonizing number of references— I really slaved over that one LMAO. I had no idea what I was doing but I liked a lot how it turned out.

Absolutely lovely piece of a zine! The writing is so gently immersive and atmospheric; each page makes me feel as though I am following an actual historical Tang dynasty investigation led by the MC Zhou Linfeng, but also the broader A/B/O worldbuilding we see permeating and influencing the case throughout the zine.

I absolutely love Zhou Linfeng -- he is such a straightforward and darling man. The rest of the cast stand out strong and complex even if we only see them in glimpses. Special shoutout to Minister Yuezheng <3 So excited to see his interactions with Zhou Linfeng.

The exposition of the case and the way its elements come together tie up the ending resolutely. It's a satisfying conclusion, and I had to commend the author for reading the Analects of Confucius for this. Amazing work!!! Thank you so much for sharing and excited to see more!!!

When I saw this I pounced on the opportunity to draw linfeng like a furtive dog.

$worthwhile read just for zhou linfeng's attitude toward being offered food and beverages In all seriousness, a truly beautiful work! It tackles some really heavy social topics but in an empathetic way that imo very well parallels what gender roles can do in reality. but also has some really well thought through ABO worldbuilding that ties nicely into the case progress. Very good characterization, so that it feels like everyone involved in the encounters leading up to the story events really do have their own complex motivations \^v^/ and, ahem, some very good foreshadowing, too. The story's implied outcome is not what you'd expect at first but makes perfect sense in these specific circumstances as a way to minimize the relevant harm done within that available framework, methinks. also. and there is a glossary, which is so important to me as someone with language processing issues and gives some very nice insight on the relevant historical research.$
