I’m glad to share results from our national study of Catholic law school graduates. Compared to secular peers, they are more likely to practice law, to connect their work with their values, and to serve in civic leadership.

Study: Catholic law grads outpace secular peers in practice, purpose
The study, commissioned by the St. Mary’s University School of Law, found that 2025 graduates of Catholic law schools are more focused on ethics, service, and community.

Yes! I think 'core theology' should open up these connections, engaging more field, helping more students situate their major in a broader perspective. I think it should also connect to more faculty, helping them to see their work within the overall mission of the school.

His distinctions (and your book) helped me, especially in terms of distinguishing audiences. Too often, core theology was being reduced to catechetics or apologetics, but these do not really capture what many of us do in our core theology classes.

Glad to see my new post in Church Life Journal. It goes with my reflections in America last month. Both are trying to think through the future of theology amidst the changes in Catholic higher education. churchlifejournal.nd.edu/articles/the...

Just returned from a weekend with fellow Catholic ethicists from @ctewc.bsky.social. Had good conversations about the future of moral theology and how we can support one another in our global networks. Here's a photo of those of us from North America.

Just as Pope Leo XIV calls the Church to unity, his story is already raising tough questions—about family, division, and what binds us together. I offered a few reflections in this @ReligionNews article on the Pope and his brother. #PopeLeoXIV #ReligionAndPolitics religionnews.com/2025/05/23/c...
Catholics see a familiar political divide in Pope Leo XIV and his eldest brother
(RNS) — Catholic leaders hope the pope’s relationship with his brother will help Catholics in the US learn to better love each other in spite of political differences.

I think this makes doing theology in the broader public difficult. No matter what you say, it seems like you are advocating for one party or another. Instead of just talking about the gospel and its demands on our lives. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/16/s...

As Pope Leo XIV begins his papacy, I reflect on what it means to lead with love in a divided world—and what kind of Church we’re called to become.

Election of Pope Leo XIV offers hope for unity for a fractured, fearful world

Dr. Amanda Baugh’s lecture on la tierra environmentalism looked at how Spanish-speaking U.S. Catholics practice ecological care through everyday habits like gardening, reuse, and sharing, and how it is often overlooked. Check out the video: mediaspace.stmarytx.edu/.../1_b6lbi9...

The San Antonio Express-News just published my reflection on Pope Francis’s legacy: Love, not power, is what holds everything together.

Pope Francis reminded us that love holds us together
In a world that often finds meaning in triumph and division, Pope Francis pointed us back to the Gospel.

Excited to share my latest in Church Life Journal! A classroom discussion on the liberal arts led to a surprising question: Why do military academies rank as the "best" while Catholic colleges are missing? The answer lies in what we choose to value.

Working on my book about Catholic higher education. Turns out research suggests that cuts—tuition, programs, core, faculty— don't save colleges. They may give a short-term boost but often make things worse long-term. Cuts frame education economically and make the college look like a discount store.

Signed the contract for my next book "The Soul of Catholic Higher Education". I've been thinking about this for awhile, and my HIR study on the positive outcomes of Catholic higher education was the final piece. Manuscript due in Sept. Should have more data on Catholic colleges by then too.

Who are the most likely to rarely feel lonely?

I thought it was the highly educated. But it's not.

It's people with the highest income.

If you compare people at the same income level, education is completely inconsequential when it comes to self reported loneliness.
