I once feared the darkness but now i know better.
It's not the night that holds the terror.
Why fear nightmares? Nightmares end.
What comes in light you cannot send
away just by coming awake.
So i fear in the daytime what comes round each corner
cause it
could be
the end.

Interested in trying this! M4F for now, i think

Bad theology *and* bad science—and that's just the first couple of paragraphs!

Wild how now that i no longer have school-age kids living with me (they've all recently moved away, to college or grad school or career) i'm getting sick more than ever.

Last year's endless flu was understandable: i was teaching in a grade school. Even now, tho–every visit w/the kids & hello, cold.

allowed to die (if not outright removed from the gene pool)" and other overtly nazi positions. He believed, & argued aggressively, that Black people and women were subhuman. He was a passionate Gingrich Republican. His talk sounded, in short, a lot like today's MAGA—Young Nazi shit.

Maybe. At my first grad school stop i worked with another young grad student whose family was big in the Ohio GOP; family members had served as pres electors. We'd debate–in public, at work—& he was fine taking positions like "poor ppl & some minorities are worthless & should be sterilized or

"If you see this, QTP with a GIF of yourself being ridiculously hot. And also a sword, i guess."

That would be so flattering! Gotta work on upping my game, getting to that next-level crazy.

Yep. Always this absurd use of that term. Trump "cracks down" on perfectly good cities, on peoole living their lives, on normal, legal, protected behavior. Enraging.

"[X federal action] will cause people to die/make life impossible for tens of millions!" Yeah, they know. They're thinning the population, killing off the "undeserving."
jmstockhausen.bsky.social
Again, the people now making the rules & running the system are very happy to see your life destroyed. And if that happens, they think you're a failure and everyone else will be better off once you deservedly die.

I'm a white, gen-X man. I'm surprised people don't hiss at me when i'm in public. I didn't support any of the horror, i'm personally doing my best to change it; still, i could hardly blame them if they did. My cohort is the worst.
jmstockhausen.bsky.social
Very good! We (by which i mean, for now, people with theoretical power) *must* try to make the law apply to Trump's various accomplices, sycophants, thugs, & goons.
jmstockhausen.bsky.social
Definitely so, but direct payment of soldiers by elites is less recoverable than a lot of what we've seen so far; historically, it has been the final nail in the coffin (e.g., the Roman Republic)

They also need to clamp down on travel, the media, and public expression, and reshape the concept of individual rights, but that stuff is clearly in process.

An authoritarian leader, ruling by decree, who controls the purse, ignores laws with impunity, pays the military directly, has a large force of paramilitary thugs + the support of the police & buy-ins from most economic & social elites; just reject elections & name a successor and he's an emperor.
jmstockhausen.bsky.social
We've already got an administration scooping up money from other budgets to pay the military; add to that the suggeation that the richest citizens might directly fund portions of it puts us, history suggests, at serious risk of the gov't being overthrown. They've already done the legal & social work

Trump: "I had a very wealthy person who called -- a donor, a great gentleman -- and he said, 'if there's any money necessary, shortfall, for the paying of the troops, then I will pay it.' Meaning he will pay it. How about that?"
jmstockhausen.bsky.social
The states are going to have to lead this effort, in particular the governors. It is going to take at least some force, and will thus involve serious risk for them. I do not in fact believe it will happen.
jmstockhausen.bsky.social
We need to get our heads around the fact that laws do not currently apply to the administration; they've made it clear they won't bother to follow laws or court orders, b/c they pay no price for disobeying. We're going to have to make them obey, or accept that we're ruled by a king.

But she's going to be a success there, apparently, because she showed at her blog that she can turn name recognition + saying stuff MAGA wants to hear into big jumps in readers/viewers. Which, again apparently, (1) translates from a startup to CBS, & (2) is what constitutes successful journalism.

Posting something on social media is equivalent to yelling it in Times Square. A lot of people hear you, which means a lot of people will disagree. It's social media, so they say so. That's not "gagging" or "muzzling" or "cancelling" anybody; that's them exercising the same free speech you are.

Got my PhD at OSU. My oldest earned her undergrad degree there. She's now in grad school in Ann Arbor. She keeps her Buckeye pedigree very quiet.
