Water and Brimstone
It is a lonely thing, to die in a world that is not your own. That is the fate that my brother and I now face. It is even more cruel that the world we find ourselves in is so like our own in so many w...

I know I'm late to the party, but "Paul Dano was the worst part of There Will Be Blood" is an absolute dogshit take.

If life felt better in the 1990s, it might be because we just received photographic evidence that there was a kid in the Omelas hole.

Fellow writers, it's so unbelievably frustrating sitting down to write the same scene for what must be the fifth or sixth time. But it's so, so gratifying knowing without a doubt that it's also the last time the scene needs to be written. Final draft time, baby! #WritingProblems

SO SO thrilled that the story continues. After finishing "Bruised-Eye Dusk" from 2024's Best of SF&F, I was dying to follow Rugg on another adventure.
ICYMI, my newest short story came out earlier this week with Beneath Ceaseless Skies! "Bloody Muddy Water" is a fantasy detective story where spellbreaker Rugg and his alligator mount, Tugboat, must solve the mystery of the Headsick plague spreading through the swampy canals of Blackvill.
Live in BCS #439: "Bloody Muddy Water" @jduckwriter.bsky.social "Rugg read her. The knit of the veil was funny to his eye, not the usual fine hatching but a more elaborate twisted warp and weft. It was a conjanet—a special weave made to protect" www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/bloo...

Well worth a listen. Such a well-realized world, it almost comes across more as reporting on fact than sharing fiction.

Using the Focus Friend app I can focus on writing instead of going down a rabbit hole of Hank Green videos on my phone

Holy crap. #FocusFriend really works. Not just for work, but for writing. I mean Labor Day Weekend also works for that. But the app has REALLY helped me make writing progress. I think it's the increments, in addition to all the other brain hacking going on. I swear up and down by my incrementalism.

Even at (ESPECIALLY at) innocuous levels, AI erodes our most fundamental hallmark of human autonomy, erasing the moment-to-moment inconvenience that stretches the muscles of our freedom: the ability to decide. Our most mundane and essential mental burden.

Tom Sturridge deserves all the praise he can get. This show carved out a massive challenge for itself, trying to stand in the wake of disgusting controversy. That doesn't change the fact that Tom Sturridge is doing things as Dream that no one else on TV right now can equal.

2k words done today. Can't remember the last time that happened, let alone with my novel, let alone before 10:30 am. Hopefully a good omen now that we're finished moving into the new place. #WritingProgress
