I try to avoid asking for extra data. If a new experiment is necessary to support a specific claim, I usually give them the option to either do the experiment or to remove/tone down the claim. Not sure if this would work for you; it's obviously difficult if the claim is central to the manuscript!

higher-fat & sugar recipes, too. For "healthier" options, I can recommend the tinned fruit sorbets. Take the best quality tinned pineapple or pear you can find, puree it with its juice, 1 tsp lemon juice and a bit of salt, freeze it and process on the sorbet setting. Super easy and tasty!

That's fantastic, congratulations! I've found the home-made ice cream to be particularly good when it's either made with a) very good, fresh fruit or b) with lots of cream. Please note that most people use the ninja creami for low-fat, low-sugar recipes, so if flavour is important to you, try some

It so was hard to imagine having successful career in science as a disabled PhD student that eventually I just left.

Who could have guessed that years later I would help create a magazine issue dedicated to highlighting Trailblazing disabled chemists!

I hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do ours :-) If you do get one, let me know if you'd like a couple of my favourite recipes!

a) Calf stretches. b) Get yourself a (secondhand) Ninja Creami and make some homemade ice-cream. The engineering alone is fascinating - you freeze your mixture as a big block and then use the machine's blade spinning at 2000 rpm to shave it into tiny ice crystals.

Not sure how feasible that is with a solid sample, but I once successfully reduced the relaxation time by changing the atmosphere of my (liquid) sample from nitrogen to oxygen. Probably not as impactful as the metal addition suggested but maybe easier to do.

That's great, congratulations!

It works for me! Though we had some other ACS issues a couple of months ago.

Try the rails where you can adjust the pannier attachment points. That's where my key was hiding for 40 (!) minutes while I was looking for it a couple of weeks ago. Good luck in finding yours!

In general, I find that "artisan" brands that fabricate in the UK have good quality. This is very important to me as I want clothes that are both long-lasting and ethically made.
jochenbrandt.bsky.social
Some more ideas: Some Japanese brands have great quality and are currently quite "cheap" because of the weak yen. If you ever get to the UK, I can recommend Community Clothing and Blackhorse Lane Atelier for clothes and Cheaney and Goral for shoes.

pairs of sneakers from Goral. I just sent one pair in for a resole/rebuild and they came back as good as new. In general, I would look for shoes with a goodyear welt that can be resoled, then use shoe trees and take care of them. If you can stomach reddit, r/goodyearwelt is a great resource (3/3).

the durability of leather over using less durable/plastic materials (and most "vegan leathers" are either plastic or functionally indistinguishable from it). About three years ago I invested in a pair of suede boots from Cheaney and they are still going strong. Two years ago, I bought two (2/3)

Rogue Territory has incredible quality and is made in the US. Some of it is maybe a bit too "cool" for me, but they also have very simple & classic designs.

As for shoes, I looked for high quality non-leather shoes for a long time but ultimately came to the conclusion that I prefer (1/3)

Today in @science.org, @mikusp.bsky.social reports a method to replace the C2 of pyridines with N, affording pyridazines.

The change from electronically consonant (pyridine) to dissonant (pyridazine) opens retrosyntheses not typically available to the latter.

Flowers? You could stick them in a TLC visualisation chamber?

The deadline for applications is July 29th, but please reach out to me ASAP if you are interested or have any questions. See commonslibrary.parliament.uk/eligibility-... for a definition of "Home Fee".

P.S. The "3-year" funding listed in the ad is an error: it's 4 years of funding!

The project is fairly flexible and will allow the successful candidate to focus on the most interesting and promising aspects.

These helicenes will be combined with radicals that are stable at room temperature and that will be used for initialisation, manipulation and read-out of single spins. No experience beyond organic synthesis will be needed: training for the characterisation will be provided throughout.
jochenbrandt.bsky.social
The whole project is built on the #CISS effect, in which chiral materials preferentially transport one electron spin over another, depending on which enantiomer is being used. In particular, the successful candidate will synthesise helicenes ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicene ), curved pi-aromatics.
