Comms guy turned educator, of sorts. Mostly here for sports, music and dad brags but the siren song of politics and righteous fury will likely prove impossible to ignore.

I delete my old posts somewhat regularly. So if there's not much here that's why.
Trans pals, I love you and I'm sorry for what you're going to have to face in the next few days. You matter and you're loved.

Should have played Masch from the start imo. Can't trust a Victoire player.

This is a very important point at the end of a very worthwhile (short) thread. Men, be better.
Most relationship advice is about telling women how to deal with the fact that their husbands might love them, but do not respect them as human beings. But no one wants to say this explicitly, so women get shitty bandaid advice about how to deal with disrespect while not naming or acknowledging it.

I get to spend an hour this morning talking to @torontomike.com about the value of conversations and storytelling while 1,500 or so people listen in so that's pretty cool.

Elly was my fourth-year political reporting prof at Carleton. Our first class was September 13, 2001. I remember he walked in, looked around at all of us and said "Well I won't bother handing out the syllabus since everything about politics is about to change"

Condolonces to his friends and family.

As a lifelong Green Day fan, what the fuck was that?

Someone could probably do an interesting analysis of the athletes who speak out (so far mostly athletes who travel, train and compete around the world) and those that go to the White House dressed in matching red ties and call it a bigger thrill than winning a Stanely Cup.
Over and over, American athletes at these Olympics are speaking out about their country and calling for love, empathy, compassion, and respect, and tellingly, are getting attacked for it. The Olympic truce apparently doesn't extend to the culture war. www.thestar.com/sports/olymp...
Bruce Arthur: U.S. Olympic athletes are speaking out about the state of their country — as Trump seethes
Athletes rarely speak out against their own governments at the Olympics. This year has proven an exception, writes Bruce Arthur.

Goddamn it, I was NOT ready for a Tim Hortons commercial to get me emotional. How DARE they use the love of a father and daughter watching sports together? HOW. DARE. THEY.

The new Muppet Show might be the best new Muppet Show. Just fully going back to the original format and it's very very good.

Kermit and Sabrina Carpenter doing Islands in the Stream while Miss Piggy chases them down is a thing I didn't know my life needed

(h/t to @axematty.com for putting this in my feed)

"If I Should Fall From Grace With God" by The Pogues

Or if we allow paranthetical extensions:

"Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)" by Tom Waits
Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

I second this. ABS also briefly kicked in for me when stopping for a red light on a road that had been cleared. It's greasier than it looks. Not unsafe by any stretch, so long as you're cautious, but... you know. Be cautious.
Eastern Ontario folks, I saw some cars struggling to stay in the road or already in ditches when I did my school run this morning, including in spots where you wouldn't expect to go off the road. It's just snow but it's the soupy kind that grabs your wheels and makes it hard to brake. Go slow.

Do you think the reporters who ask the NEXT question after Trump attacks women journalists like this ever watch the tape back and feel the slightest bit of guilt for their part in normalizing this?
Trump to Kaitlan Collins after she pressed him on getting justice for Epstein survivors:

"No wonder CNN has no ratings because of people like you. You know, she‘s a young woman. I don‘t think I‘ve ever seen you smile. I‘ve known you for 10 years. I don‘t think I‘ve ever seen a smile in your face."

Wake up

Let the dog out

Make coffee

Feed the dog

Scroll through my bespoke feed of the various horrors affecting humanity as we watch the death of democracy and morality

Sit at my desk and do my job like none of this is happening

Yea. This is probably fine and normal
