Reading this whilst on a train down from Manchester to London and, sure, why not, who wants to travel between England's two biggest cities anyway?
I don’t know how many ways there are to say “Manchester’s economy is growing, so if we’re not going to do much proactive on infrastructure, can we at least not do stuff that’s actively damaging”

Why pubs are great - turns out me and my dad were sat on the same table as George Michael's drummer tonight, whilst watching the football?!

(I will admit to being skeptical, but a Google on the tram home shows that yes, for eight years or so, that was his life!)

@lmtpod.city, this will be a depressing podcast when it comes. Think my thoughts can be summed up by the Peep Show meme... If nothing else, seeing the squad would basically do the Leverkusen's manager's team talk for them - that's what you play in the league cup against a championship team!

Water Lily, the Chinese restaurant near us in Chorlton, does an exquisite Mapo Tofu dish, which I always order whenever we visit. Went again tonight after the football, so gaze upon its wondrousness! And if you're ever there, order it, it really is very good.

Bought the new @younglivesvscancer.bsky.social teddy earlier today with a plan for it to be a friend's child's Christmas present, but Vinny seems to have other ideas - think Bruno is his toy now!

(You can buy your own Bruno at shop.younglivesvscancer.org.uk/products/bru...)

As 0-0s go, that was quite the half of football

Vinny was being unbearably cute earlier today as he tried to stay warm during the cold spell

This is why it's always a good idea to employ a copy editor before printing off your large scale advert for your new sports store...

Work colleague trying to steal my lunch earlier (yes that's a pokeball image in the toastie there, I have a Pokémon themed toastie maker like the sophisticated gentleman I am)

Thankfully, in Manchester we have Jack's House for families who have to travel into the city for their treatment from across the UK, to help families to stay together & cut down on travel costs. The extra costs cancer brings families are huge, and bring challenges at what's already a horrific time.
No family should be driven into financial hardship & debt because their child needs life saving cancer treatment miles from home. @younglivesvscancer.bsky.social knows how vital young cancer patients travel fund is www.bbc.com/news/article...

Seeing 'Road Safety Week' referenced in the wild gives me flashbacks to my time at Brake a decade ago, ringing around local news to try to get it covered & attending the local launches!

Super interesting & insightful thread about Barbara Castle, and the 10,000s of lives her policies likely saved.
This week is Road Safety Week & a chance to talk about Barbara Castle!

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!

This was done despite fierce opposition.

Lauren Hemp and Bunny Shaw are very good at football. More expert analysis as we get it.

Decided to see how the other half live by treating me and the partner to hospitality tickets at the Manchester Derby in the WSL, and wow this is quite posh...

Well, that was comprehensive

Now to relax after a frantic first half. Can't remember the last time I've seen us play Liverpool and they've not even had a shot on target.

An article about how the end date of WW2, and the shift from war to peace, isn't exactly as clear cut as you might think, from the finest living historian to have come from Cheadle (probably)...

I'm a sub to the Sheffield Tribune's sister paper the @manchestermill.bsky.social, and it's stories like this which show the real power of local media to cover things which might otherwise not get the attention they deserve. Really feel for the people in the story being preyed on by Andrew Milne.
