Xenia’s book, Befriending Performance Anxiety, is brilliant. This is a great opportunity for musicians!

Looking forward to the @nytimes.com Daily podcast about how Israel has illegally blocked a humanitarian mission in international waters and abducted several hundred parliamentarians, lawyers, doctors and activists to prevent food from getting to the children they, Israel, are starving.

Our former President Mary Robinson,
told Channel 4 News that "the United States is complicit in this famine and unfolding genocide" of Palestinians in Gaza through its support of apartheid Israel. She's right, and shamefully the US uses Shannon Airport every day. #GazaGenocide

Sad to hear Danny Thompson has passed away, incredible musician rightly revered for his work on seminal folk records by John Martyn, Richard Thompson and Nick Drake but did you know he also played on this classic?

For backstory Music in the Castle of Heaven by John Eliot Gardiner is wonderful. But you’re absolutely right - David Watkin’s recording of Cello Suites, Hilary Hahn plays Bach and Richter’s Well Tempered Clavier are lighthouse recordings.

How wonderful! I totally relate! For the Goldbergs, Gould is justifiably famous but a sort of Starbucks approach. Coffee for people who don’t like coffee. Olafsson is too fast in my opinion. Andras Schiff recorded it twice (as did Gould) and i’d say his ECM recording is my fave.

By the way, the only reason I noticed is I'm studying the Frank Martin piece and love his recording. :-)

Haha - I don't know - it only makes me love Bream more if anything. He told a great story of when Britten wrote him a piece (Nocturnal) It had 2 notes that were physically impossible to play. So Britten said, "Play one while you think about the other!"

Haha - it just shows we're all human! And if you're the composer, like you, there's no such thing as a wrong note! :-)

Aargh -just found a wrong note in the landmark #JulianBream recording of Frank Martin's Quatre Pièces Brèves! In bar 3, the second slur is an E# but Bream plays an E Natural.
Really love this piece and Bream's recording.

Happy 90th birthday to #ArvoPÄrt. We are lucky to share the world with a composer whose music brings such deep solace. I named my first band after him and cherish the memory of meeting the man himself some twenty years ago after a performance of his mighty Credo. 1/2

Watched the coverage of the #Vuelta yesterday - excellent commentary by @robhatch.bsky.social, @sportsorla.bsky.social et al, marred only by the equivication that the protests are a "complex issue."
Since when is opposition to the forced starvation of a population complex? Where is the complexity?

Les militant·es n'auraient pas eu à risquer leur vie si les États avaient pris les mesures nécessaires pour permettre l'acheminement de l'aide humanitaire à Gaza.

Les États doivent dénoncer cette attaque et agir maintenant !

Good looking fella! One of my fave guitarists - every time I saw him with Dylan he seemed to bring out something special in him. Always did a great Tangled up in Blue.
