Pretty great car spotting in Southend-On-Sea.

When was the last time you saw a street parked Clio V6?

In what is now becoming an increasingly large collection I call “Photos from the tailgate of my truck” I hereby proudly publish this.

No editing or photoshop just a real view at work snapped on my trusty iPhone 11.

Quite proud of this one.

Week 2 of 18 done on this job.

I’m aware of the outside world through snippets online but am existing in almost constant commuter motion in London.

Haven’t driven my cars in ages. I am trains, tubes & trucks at present.

Long days. Short nights but a good crew of my friends so it’s not too bad.

Portal & Portal 2 are perfect videos games. I miss them so much.

I went cold turkey from video games back in lockdown but I would buy an old 360 again just to play them both.

No notes. Nothing I’d change. A perfect gaming experience in my opinion.

This is the content I’m here for.

I have everything crossed for your success.

I think I’d go Accord because it would also have to drive me up and down the country each week too.

Or I could just keep the 850 which is supposed to be the “work car” and pay the fees whenever I go into the charging zone in London.

But it’s a great excuse to look for new cheap project cars!

There some insane cars that are ulez free.

My gaffer is looking at a Saab 9-3 2.8 V6 awd unit that’s compliant. And I saw a 3.7L Audi Quattro thing that was also ok. It’s crackers.

Strong endorsement and that one is for sale in the town where we are living currently. It would be so easy.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
Are they comfy though? Looks great. Easy for London traffic but I’m still going to have to sit on the motorway for four hours up and down each week.

Plus I have a bad back.

I love that there’s a TT in my search categories but worried about my back on the long drives.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
Reliable. Comfy. Practical. It’s on the list for sure.

I’ve always wanted another convertible Saab. I miss my old 93.

So. Based on my coworkers cheap ULEZ compliant purchase I have been searching for “sub £2,000, auto, petrol” cars for this job.

Most of them local to where I am staying in London.

Some fun options.

Here are my four favourites. The Civic has fake TypeR badges but apart from that it’s a good car.

He has inspired me to start looking for a cheap hoopty project car in the new year after this job is over.

I haven’t bought a car in ages. (11th May 2023) not that I’m counting or having cravings or anything.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
He put in “5 miles from his house. MOT until mid 26. ULEZ compliant. £1000.”

Then bought whatever he fancied. He has a nice BMW 5 series diesel that he didn’t want to take on this job.

I did toy with the idea of buying something else but decided to just use trains to go up & down.

I have another colleague who has the “best” version of the Cooper whatsit supercharged blah blah I don’t know the model or whatever but he absolutely swears by his. Loves it.

This one is as basic as they come apart from being convertible. Some awful aftermarket wheels too.

But it got me home.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
Wrapped at 18:00 last night in south east London.

Got home at 01:00 this morning after travelling most of the way back as a passenger in a colleagues Mini One that he bought for £700 just for this job because it’s ULEZ free.

London to Wrexham and I have to say for £700 it was perfectly fine.

I’ve got another one today and they can fight me for it.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
Same situation tonight. We will see what happens.

I’m not relinquishing my reflective abilities based on time and someone wanting to count all their jackets before they leave an hour before me.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
It was the H&S guys that took them back! That’s what was so ridiculous.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
So.

Filming at night on a busy suburban residential street. Lots of gear & people everywhere.

Locations dept issues reflective jackets for everyone.

Then immediately on wrap at 22:00 they start taking them off people.

While we still had an hour derig in the exact darkness as before wrap. FFS.

I survived. Thank you.

Only 89 more days to go.
joehallenbeck.bsky.social
Shoot day 1 of 90 tomorrow.

18 weeks. In London.

Good to be working but it’s going to be a tough gig and I’ll be missing from my life until February. Two weeks off at Christmas.

Gotta keep positive.

Had a prep week so far loading a truck. Working with my regular crew.

Let’s do it all again.
