Tonight, history was made with the first-ever Women's Pro Baseball League draft. Several Canadians were chosen, including 2 from Alberta (Madison Willan & Sydney Barry) + 2 from Saskatchewan (Braidy Birdsall & Addie Ziebart). Made me think of this editorial from earlier in the year. #WPBL

Alberta to invoke notwithstanding clause to shield 3 transgender bills from court challenges | CBC News
The Alberta government has tabled legislation that seeks to invoke the notwithstanding clause to shield a suite of bills that affects transgender youth and adults from legal challenges.

Important reminder: The legislation was originally crafted to get rid of progressive politicians like Calgary mayor Jyoti Gondek. There was even a campaign on it and, when it failed, they moved the goalposts to make it easier. They’re squirming because they never thought it’d be used against them.
WOW!

Smith really is rattled about recall!

Despite the gofundme myth being debunked & even unions making it clear they aren’t organizing anything, Smith announced that she’s looking at ways to make recall rules less accessible!

You know, the recall rules she just re-wrote

Thought that keeps crossing my mind: If Obama’s name was in the Epstein files, they would have been released months ago. If they weren’t, Republicans/Conservatives would have lost their collective minds. The fact they bend themselves into pretzels to avoid it now is something to behold. #Epstein

I’ve been saying this from the onset: the 3,000 teachers were only going to cover the cost of growth in the new school builds (if that) and not actually address the current needs. Math is, apparently, hard. #ABleg #Alberta #Education www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This whole #ABleg recall stuff has had me laughing the last few days. Remember: it was the UCP who introduced it with an eye towards turfing certain municipal politicians (Gondek). Then when it failed, they lowered the bar to get the recall moving. Never did they think it would be turned on them.

It kinda says a lot about the discourse around politics as a whole when one of the first things an elected official has to say is “please don’t contact my family.” We’ve gone down a bizarre rabbit hole where politics are blood sports. And that’s not a good thing. 🇨🇦

Dear Alberta,
We have a serious problem with this government, who claimed it’d fix health care in 90 days. Seems pretty clear to me they meant “start dismantling it in 90 days,” because it has only gotten worse. And now stories like this are coming out. #ABleg globalnews.ca/news/1150372...

Alberta parents shouldn’t be surprised when teachers stop doing the extra stuff. No more coaching, mentoring, answering emails at all hours, extra prep, special day planning. All of it. From what I’ve seen and heard, they’re demoralized and feel devalued. It’s bad. #ABleg #Alberta

I know a few people are trying to paint it that my opinion on #ABleg education doesn’t count because I have a pecuniary interest in that my wife is a teacher. I’ve never hidden that. But I’d also like to say: I’m a dad of two kids soon to be entering the system. I want it to be better for THEM.

There's a really important piece of context that's mentioned by the NDP here: no one within government (Premier, Health Minister, staffers, etc) were interviewed for this report. Did Judge Wyant not ask them, or did they elude his request for interviews? Too many unknowns still. #ABleg #Alberta

Interesting how she’s parroting some talking points from some of her hardcore supporters about overall numbers. It’s such a bad-faith argument because a class of 30 in Cochrane and a class of 12 in a small town make it an average of 21. She’s openly dismissing cities & growing municipalities. #ABleg
