Shoutout to my amazing Mum for spending the last few years knitting me this ridiculously awesome nerd blanket!!! 😁
A knitted blanket with lots of nerdy iconography on it, including Pokemon, Doctor Who, and Marvel.

Ninsight is here! We’d like to thank everyone for their patience with this. After some unfortunate production delays, the magazine is now out in the wild, and we’d love to see your pics and hear your thoughts!

None of this is possible without all you amazing folks, and we hope you enjoy!

Loved The Roses, and can’t believe it took me so long to watch Fantastic Mr Fox. Of course I had to rewatch the Mario movie in honour of the 40th anniversary, but Honey Don’t was a big disappointment. Was just all over the place and then kinda just ended. #LastFourWatched

Really enjoyed this discussion! Was surprised when I saw so much negativity going round after the Direct, so I’m glad to hear you both talk about how exciting Nintendo’s current lineup is. I’m personally more excited than ever to be a Nintendo fan, before even factoring in 3rd parties and indies.

Well damn that was awesome!!! #NintendoDirect

Plenty of entertaining films this last week, but The Life of Chuck was something else. Gonna need some rewatches, but it’s already up there as one of my favourites.

Ziff Davis and IGN routinely decide that work done by our laid off colleagues is not important. But inevitably, that crucial work falls onto those who remain.

Not this time. Not anymore.
FROM NOW UNTIL FEBRUARY 13TH IGN CREATORS GUILD IS GOING TO... DO OUR JOB!

OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, IGN MANAGEMENT HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH LAYING OFF OUR COWORKERS OVER AND OVER. MEANWHILE, MANY OF OUR COLLEAGUES HAVE LEFT THE COMPANY IN NO SMALL PART DUE TO BUYOUTS, OVERWORK, AND FEELING UNSUPPORTED, EACH TIME, THE COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO BACKFILL MANY ESSENTIAL ROLES, CLAIMING WE'RE ON A HIRING FREEZE, IT'S NOT IN THE BUDGET, OR THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO LESS WORK THIS TIME.

AS A RESULT, IGNCG MEMBERS HAVE BEEN FORCED TO TAKE ON MORE OF THEIR FORMER COLLEAGUES' WORKLOADS. MANY OF US NOW WORK LONGER HOURS THAN WE USED TO. A LOT OF US RARELY TAKE LUNCH BREAKS. SOME OF US DO NOT TAKE ADEQUATE TIME OFF DUE TO THERE BEING NO ONE TO PICK UP THE SLACK. OTHERS OF US ARE STUCK DOING WORK WE WERE NEVER HIRED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE.
UP TO THIS POINT, WE'VE ALL ACCEPTED THIS AS NORMAL, BECAUSE WE CARE DEEPLY ABOUT IGN AND THE WORK WE DO. BUT WITH SO MANY OF US STRUGGLING MORE AND MORE AS EACH NEW WAVE OF OUR COWORKERS ARE DEPRIVED OF A LIVELIHOOD, THIS CYCLE CAN'T CONTINUE. MANAGEMENT IS UNWILLING TO STOP IT, SO IT FALLS TO US.
WITH THE LAYOFFS OF EIGHT OF OUR COWORKERS, IGNCG HAS NEGOTIATED A SIX-MONTH RECALL LIST. WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT, FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS, IF IGN WANTS TO FILL ANY OF THOSE ELIMINATED ROLES AGAIN, THEY MUST REHIRE OUR LAID-OFF COLLEAGUES. WE WANT THEM TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET THEIR JOBS BACK IF THEY WANT THEM, AND IF NOT, WE WANT THOSE ROLES BACKFILLED TO EASE THE BURDEN ON THE REST OF US.
SO STARTING TODAY, LENCE MEMBERS ARE COMMITTING TO DO OUR JOBS. NO MORE, NO LESS. WELL SHOW UP TO WORK ON TIME AND LEAVE ON TIME. WE'RE TAKING ALL OF OUR LUNCH TIME, EVERY DAY.
IF WE WORK LATE, WE WILL FIRMLY ASK FOR OUR RIGHTFULLY EARNED COMP TIME. AND IF IGN WANTS OUR LAID-OFF COWORKERS' WORK TO GET DONE, THEY'LL HAVE TO REHIRE THEM TO DO IT INSTEAD OF FOISTING IT UPON US.
HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT IGNCG IN ALL THIS?

At least having the Gamescom show on wasn’t a complete waste of time.

Seriously though, can the soulslike genre just go away forever now. Or at the very least try being something other than some gothic horror blood fest.

Some really great films this week! I think Stand By Me will stick with me a while, and has me even more excited to see Life of Chuck when it finally releases here next week!

A day playing arcade games with friends, ending with the purchase of Mario Kart Lego. Definitely call this a good (unexpectedly expensive 😅) Saturday!

P.S. Those dancing games on high difficulty are a hell of a workout 😂

Got a birthday card that said to spend the day in my happy place. So naturally I spent the day in the cinema. Four films, one day, fun times.

Ochi was the only disappointment, and I can’t believe I took so long to watch Asteroid City. Overall a pretty solid run! #LastFourWatched

Asteroid City - 4 Stars
The Naked Gun - 4 Stars
The Legend of Ochi - 2 and a half Stars
Friendship - 3 Stars

Of all the films I watched today, The Naked Gunn was by far the best! Joke after joke hitting hard, tonnes of sight gags that I’m sure would benefit a 2nd viewing, and everyone involved just clearly having a great time making something so fun!

Birthday means a full day at the cinema! Got Friendship, The Legend of Ochi, and The Naked Gun all lined up 😁

Nothing too crazy this week. A couple short films that were cute but not much more.

The comedy in Spaceballs just really didn’t land for me, but there were parts I appreciated.

Loved Fantastic 4 though! Very heartfelt, and a promising effort from Marvel. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

Fantastic Four was pretty awesome! Setting and family angle helped it feel distinct from other Marvel films, and I liked that it wasn’t massively action-packed.

Also, Michael Giacchino rocked with the score. Cannot get the main theme out my head.
