Just a guy taking a break from the tech finance world to write The Lurran Chronicles.

For those interested, this is about Eli's adventures in a prison world far from Earth, as he continues to develop his powers amid the political plots swirling around him. Admittedly, the series is a slow burn, focused on world-building, character development, and various mysteries, so fair warning.

A Healer's Retribution, Book 6 of The Lurran Chronicles, is now available in eBook/Paperback on Amazon, with the audiobook version hopefully following next month.

Also, big thanks to @emilydrawsstuff.bsky.social for the cool cover!

What's everyone's opinion on character lists? At this point in the series, my tracking spreadsheet for the cast has grown to over several hundred entries, so I'm thinking of including the most important names and some non-spoiler details at the end of Book 6, for anyone needing a refresher.

The scene will have the MC standing in a city square, holding his 2-meter-long staff in hand, with a handful of darkly clad defeated foes around him. Ideally, these would be drawn in a style somewhat similar to the covers of books 1 and 5 in my series, as I like that slight grittiness.

I'd also like this person to have experience with typography to help update the entire series, which would likely include subsequent projects to create new covers for several of the other books in dire need of updates. Thanks!

Wow, I wasn't expecting such a response to the artwork commission request, but to clarify, I'm specifically looking for epic fantasy cover art, with a stylized realism that conveys wonder, tension, and scale.

Oh, and I'm looking to commission some epic fantasy artwork for my series, so if anyone knows of a professional artist with experience in the genre, please send them my way.

However, keep in mind that this next installment is already over 160k words (700+ pages), making it easily the longest in the series, and I'm a one-man show on the writing/editing/polishing front, meaning I'll do my absolute best to get this done quickly.

A quick update: I finished writing Book 6 of The Lurran Chronicles earlier this month, and I'm now deep into the final polish, aiming to release the eBook/Paperback by the end of this month, with the audiobook hopefully coming in January.

Alright, I just blew past 140k words for Book 6 of The Lurran Chronicles, and I still have the last couple of chapters left to write, plus a bunch of polishing for the earlier sections, meaning this might end up being the longest installment yet.

You know, I really was intending on keeping Book 6 to about the length of the first in the series, so around 125k. Unfortunately, I'm about to blow right past that, and I still have several more big scenes left to write, so we'll see how long this ends up being.

In the course of my rambling prose, three books turned into five, and more recently, those goalposts were moved to seven, so now I can’t predict how many more books are left in the series. However, what I can say is there’s a LOT more story planned for what comes after.
September 7, 2025 at 5:46 PM
I’d originally planned for this series to be a trilogy, but once I dove into the characters and their different backgrounds that revolved around Eli’s adventures on Lurra, I found myself wanting to fill this magical world with all manner of details that inevitably led to a much grander tale to tell.
September 7, 2025 at 5:46 PM
On a related note, as I work on Book 6, I’ve come to realize there's no way I'll be able to finish this series with one more book, not in a way that'll leave me satisfied. There's simply too much story left to tell for me to rush certain aspects along, just to fit some arbitrary goal of mine.

Book 6 of The Lurran Chronicles has taken longer than expected, but I'm now almost done, though I still have some polishing left. Jimmy Moreland will again be lending his talents to producing the audiobook, so everything should be published by November.

Earlier today, I was taking a shortcut through a quiet neighborhood to get around some traffic in SoCal, just to see this cute stand. Of course, I had to stop for some fresh strawberry lemonade and a lemon cheesecake puck of tasty goodness.

Finally, it feels like a lot of things are going to hell in a handbasket, so writing about a guy in a magical world, doing his best to make a positive difference for everyone around him, has certainly proven to be an interesting coping mechanism for me. Regardless, there's a lot more story to tell!

Obviously, such self-discovery has impacted my other personal relationships, with some growing stronger as a result of my improved communication skills. On the other hand, I've also learned to better recognize certain toxic people and worked to remove them from my life.
July 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
All that being said, some of the more painful moments in my life served as inspiration for certain written scenes, and by delving into memories often left unexamined for decades, I actually found a surprising sense of clarity and catharsis with events that once fueled too many of my nightmares.

Now, when I compare my writing style from today with four years ago, I have made clear strides in expressing myself more effectively. But then, my professional background is in corporate accounting, so keeping my prose from sounding too dry or unemotional is an ongoing challenge.
July 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
Along the same lines, I have big plans for where this series eventually goes, and some of my problems stem from spending so much time imagining a story that's multiple books away instead of devoting my hours to writing the current installment. Yeah, this issue is still a work in progress...
July 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
Obviously, I'm still a new author and have a lot to learn, but I've become much more comfortable with my particular writing process. That's not to say I don't have days when I'm staring at the blank page in frustration, yet I know such moments are temporary and often fixed by some focused planning.
July 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
Earlier today, I reread my first draft from July 2021 and was stunned by how bad some of the passages were, including a lot of awkward phrasing that destroyed the pacing. I was also clearly struggling with unintended word repetition, which made my lack of competent editing readily apparent.
July 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
First of all, I should have taken advantage of certain free online resources, rather than trying to figure everything out myself, which led to some truly stupid mistakes. For example, just checking out the selfpublish Subreddit for their extensive self-publishing checklist makes it worth the effort.
July 6, 2025 at 7:05 PM
On this day four years ago, I began writing The Lurran Chronicles, back when my MC's name was Eric instead of Eli. Now, after publishing more than 700k words in the series, this seems like a natural time for a little self-reflection on my journey so far.
