Zahn was out to get paid. Disney knew that Thrawn was popular, but they can't allow their popular characters to be villains, so they have them rewritten.
It wasn't the first time.
(Also; Thrawn wasn't responsible for that massacre)

The Emperor was mentioned in New Hope and never even appeared on-screen. The world and characters of a well-told story feel like they exist outside the confines of the three acts presented.

If they keep cannibalising the pre-Disney material to try and graft quality on to the Disney-era garbage; they'll squander their last opportunity.

Reintroduce them and the universe they inhabit.
The story must be stand-alone, with it fitting into canon but not requiring any knowledge OF canon to be enjoyed by a new audience.

The Adobe Animate situation is an example of why (where possible) you should never ONLY save work as a proprietary format, especially in this "own nothing and be happy" age.
Completed an image? Save two high res versions; the proprietary AND a universal for backup.
